Youz are gonna kill me.. The thing I dont like about CLASS (THE TINY LITTLE MISSING FEATURE) is the fact its not showing the htz so you have to use a secondary scope to see what the hell ur doin. My fav for adding highs has got to be Acon Digital StudioRebirth.. Image
You can visually see the original audio and then the added stuff on top..

Email Refined Audiometrics and ask them if they could send you a copy of Clas info@refined-audiometrics.com Be patient with them It took me about a month to recieve a copy. http://refinedaudiometrics.com/products-clas.shtml
i was lucky enogh to have a copy in one day only :P

very good must say!

Sounds like you're hearing 1000x louder what it actually does to the sound

Bin BBE, Honestly, sonic exciters fatigue your ears, like listening to those stupid little crappy in-ear headphones.

Are you not better off cutting out the mud of a mix, and bringing up the level so the highs are clearer? Also, compression can bring new life into dull VSTi's.

so much for using the ears to decide whether the effect is desirable or not...

how's a scope going to help in that?

Havent been to their websites recently, but from what I recall:
Arent BBE and Class not psychoacoustic compression things rather than exciters?

yes, the bbe sonic exciter is in fact a phase realignment (3 bands, delaying lower frequ.), a nice - but static - "low" equalizer and a special high-frequ. expander controled by the mid frequency band. harmonic distortions are not created. i never understood the hype behind these units, it just sounds nasty to me - in any situation.

the aphex exciter creates harmonic distortion and does phase realignment, too. the strange thing is that it does exactly the opposite of the bbe, it delays high frequencies. but it seems to make sense in conjunction with the created harmonics. that's the unit behringer copied to "make" their own exciter.

the SPL vitaliser is just a very good tuned phase-cancelation-based EQ with very strange parameters. harmonics are created, but that's not the main effect. it's far superior and much more usefull than any other "exciter/enhancer".

Basically the same way your eye balls allow your dome to recognize their surroundings!

I just got CLAS (they sent it in one day!) and I have to say I'm very glad I started this thread; I can't believe the number of great-sounding (and many of them free) plugins that you have pointed me to! Thanks for that!

Suffice to say this is a great great forum.

Without a forum like this, I would never be able to discover some of the great-sounding plugins written by developers that are more interested in developing great-sounding plugins than in burning money on advertising... if you know what I mean.

Computer Music made a huge thing about BBE about a year ago (which is why I bought it) and I probably would never have expected a free CLAS to give better results then BBE. Just because BBE comes with a price tag in a nice big red box. Go figure.

enjoy ....I make shure that I try every alternative even the free ones before I buy :D

I'm inpatiently waiting for my e-mail with CLAS :) It looks like we are both on the same page with BBE and CM. As I mentioned before, that Mixing Article they had made me dust off BBE and stick it on most of my critical FX channels (VST version, cause DX is messed up in fruity's wrapper). Now, I have something to look forward to!!! How would you rate CPU load of this CLAS plugin? As I mentioned, I use multiple instances of it for different FX groups, so acumulative CPU load from all of them is a big deal to me.

For me the BBE is 1% on my cpu and clas is bout 4%. What I do is render my soft synths to wav files and use clas while im doing that and maybe use it on my drum bus. Just a slight touch though.

nothing wrong with wanting to know who your users are.

the SPL vitaliser is just a very good tuned phase-cancelation-based EQ with very strange parameters. harmonics are created, but that's not the main effect. it's far superior and much more usefull than any other "exciter/enhancer".
So it just goes to show that there is no empirical way to say any enhancer is better than another. Because I absolutely hate Vitalisers. I would throw it away or sell it if anyone gave one to me for free. They're nasty grating music degraders IMO. I can spot them a mile away even at low settings and I don't like it.

So then they made tube Vitalisers to tempt the retro wannabes...and they just distort an already nasty sound. I never knew why anyone would waste their money on those things...but some people just love 'em.

See...it's pointless arguing about whether one enhancement process is better than another one...it will ALWAYS be down to personal taste. Psychoaccoustic gives the game away in the name..the "psycho" bit. Everyone hears things in their mind differently. I like BBEs, always will do. It so happens I've found a tool I prefer to use instead now, but I'd happily go back to using my BBE anyday.

And all the garbage I read about "make a good mix instead" is just that...garbage. Of course we always do that. The whole point with any enhancer is that if you use it properly on the right material, it will always (in your own personal opinion) improve that mix. If I make a crap mix, it might make it tolerable. If I make a mediocre mix, it might make it above average. If I make a stellar mix it might make it just that little bit more stellar. If you shouldn't use an enhancer because you should be able to mix it better...then you can strecth that argument out to not using Eq, or not using master compression or any tool. The tools are there, so use them if you like them.

I own and love the Aphex 204 big bottom, i also like bbe sonic maximizer, i have Clas but i see it as a different type of tool then bbe. Bbe's ruff, bright, thick nature goes good on string sounds and many other sounds, at times i find nothing can give me the richness i want but bbe.I see it as a good tool (not great) that can be very usefull and in a class by itself, it's not an exciter,eq, etc... So it's not redundant to have both clas and bbe and they sound totally different.
