I'd have to look more closely becuase they do talk about some of the effects used and show the gear and the whole setup and studio in pretty good detail.
I bought the DVD for the live concert footage and 5.1 sound, but I've watched the documentary part more times than the actual concert.

On a side note, Steven Wilson and Mikael Akerfeldt are big mellotron fans. They even joke about possibly using to much mellotron on some of tracks.

Okay,

So I'll bottom line it...

WIthout the DSP for the more/tracks effects thing, if you had hardware to match bits/output khz...

There'd be no reason to go to ProTools if you liked your host then...as far as quality goes.

Oh, and as far as the "p*ssing match" goes...I forfeit. You all can win. I don't have a point.

I am just trying to understand and clear out some discrepencies from things I am unclear about in my own mind that are disallowing my own musical flow to be as good as it could/should.

I do, though, appreciate ALL input, no matter what type or content.

wasn't that like about 100% before 1986 thereabouts, you know, when rock actually Rocked And Rolled (and disco sucked) and not everything was as polished to the point where nothing sounds as if played by human beings?
can't remember when the 'revolution' started, exactly...

Exactly!

As I mentioned in an ealier post... I've worked with guys whom have had hit records through the 80s & into the mid 90s & there wasn't any Pro Tools in site.

Pro Tools uses the DSP cards as a set of very expensive internal dongles. Every normal sequencer natively gives you nearly unlimited tracks. [(except Pro Tools - HD gives you:

# Up to 192 simultaneous audio tracks at 44.1/48 kHz (256 total audio tracks)
# Up to 96 simultaneous audio tracks at 96 kHz
# Up to 36 simultaneous audio tracks at 192 kHz
# Up to 160 mono or stereo auxiliary tracks
# Up to 128 instrument tracks

and LE/ M-Powered ARTIFICIALLY limits you to 32 mono tracks. (48 if you pay another $500 for the add-on.)]

Will people use all of the tracks? No, but sometimes they go above 100 tracks on an orchestral score in Logic or Sonar or Cubase. Plugins? Most plugins are native anyway. Most TDM plugins are TDM only because they're harder to pirate. I've got a client that maxed out his CPU on 30 tracks of RTAS plugins, DSP cards won't help in a situation like that.

Maybe the most important Kraftwerk follower must be Afrika Bambaataa. He was a big fan of Trans Europe Express and he used to play the song on the party's they organised in the late 70's. I just happened to be one of the first to combine Kraftwerk stylings with sounds and words we experienced on the New York Street Scene. Other than Kraftwerk, there were few other sources of that amazing "new" sound, so we made our own!!

Not to be a stickler, as it doesn't really matter. But in ProTools LE, you can have as many TRACKS as you want. You just can't have the many voices. You can only have 32 things playing at once.

Again, not that it matters. I'm just bored at work.
