Maybe it's to soon to ask for this. I think Mackie has not decided yet what they are going to do exactly.

I have bought (on esoundz) IK Multimedia Stealth plugin than come with Tracktion 2.1 for half of the price of the boxed version of Tracktion, I'm curious to see what upgrade path I will have.

I see boxed T2's selling for a decent price through well nown music stores....i just wonder how long i should hold off..the only thing i'd find useful is the extra plugins, and hopefully a better upgrade path..but i'd obviously like to buy it at the right time!
any ideas on the grace period? :) when it begins?
Mackie needs to initiate the grace period pronto. They have essentially announced that T3 is right around the corner. So any new customers who know about this are not going to feel good about buying T2. They will groan and curse Mackie's silence.

Any new customers who DON'T know about T3 coming soon are going to be pissed when they get lumped in with folks who have been using T2 for low these many moons.

So where's the benefit to Mackie in holding out?

You introduced the idea of a "grace period". So you must know when it begins. No'one else has been talking about one.

Because they have not yet announced a release date yet. How can you have a grace period when you don't even know an exact date? They HAVE said that it will be early next year. So it's still some time off.

Definitely some time off. I wouldn't expect an upgrade from today's purchase to be free. But, you still get an upgrade path of some sort, meaning that the final purchase will inevitably be cheaper than just buying T3 full version after waiting for it to come out. And you get T2 in the meantime, which isn't a bad thing. ;)

You say "Mackie's" silence, which is just silly. Beno been very vocal here the past while (and, actually, constantly throughout the year). Not having a very specific piece of information that Mackie is currently unable to provide (if it's not a shippable product yet, how on earth can they have a release date? Only by playing the IK Multimedia card... <memories of ST2...>. I'm sure it's not an intentional "silence" but rather an exercise in common sense. You should't make up a number out of thin air if you can't stick to it. Thankfully, they haven't.

To officially repeat what others have speculated, we have not yet announced pricing, bundles, upgrade paths, etc. We are still on track for a great release at the beginning of 2007 so we are a little ways off from announcing all this. But it shouldn't be too long before we give you all the info.

I want a disgrace period, where I can groundhog like crazy, act like an idiot, beg for info that doesn't exist - and not suffer the inevitable insults that come from acting that way! :help:

C'mon, 2 weeks ought to be enough... :help:

Oh, will the next release finally record aftertouch so I can use that as an excuse to get a fancier controller keyboard? :hihi:

Thank you for lifting up the blanket a bit! Still I miss one of the most important improvements; that is support for dualcore processors and multiple processors. This would knock the final argument for using Cubase over, and bring a lot of new happy customers to T3 (as well as keeping a few). Will this feature come with T3?
Be quiet brain, or I stab you with a Q-tip!

Beno said that they are working on it, and are going to do what they can. The release is still a few months off, so it's possible. Of course, there's no guarantee, but he has addressed it a few pages back.

Lunch Money wrote:No news that I'm aware of. It can't be completely trivial, though, especially since T uses vector-based graphics. You'd have to come up with definitions for each element of the grid, right down to the diamond shaped thingy. I doubt that it's a month of work, but I'm sure it's not an afternoon one-off, either.
The fact that it's vector-based doesn't make it any harder. It could actually make it easier depending on how the framework looks like.

It's not trivial though, only in principle. But if they are going to implement a drum editor I'd rather have a really good one than a cheap hack.
Making a fixed size piano roll is easy though.

Yeah, I have no idea exactly how trivial it would be. I just figured, any shape defined as vector co-ordinates, plus getting each element to play well together (resizing together properly, which means deciding on the right "anchor") is by default trickier than drawing a few lines and shapes in a bitmap editor.
