Or his first 3 rock albums, which are pretty much like the soul of Roxy Music minus the schmaltzy vocals.

However, as far as reading material goes, Eno's diary (A Year: With Swollen Appendices) is full of very interesting stuff from anecdotes to music/art theory and interesting ideas. Worth a read.

yeah, well i rec'd a book, and i got the usual blank stare i get whenever i am 'serious' on the kvr...wonder why i never bother? i actually think i parley more actual info via sarcasim and irreverent bullshit...i guess you gotta work with what mamma gave you...

I agree with vurt on music:cage, or however it's spelled. For fiction, I love the Master & Margarita, even though it's not really about music. More devilish I'd say.

William L. Benzon: Beethoven's Anvil

Peter Bastian, a danish musician, wrote a book called "Ind i musiken" (Inside the music, or into the music), which is one of the most inspiring reads about music ever. I can't find out if it's been translated to English.

Great stuff people, i shall keep all those books in mind!

Well I ordered a couple of books last night from amazon, which was before i'd even read any of these replies, one of which happens to be Ocean of Sound

Thought I might as well try my luck and hope they're good reads.

I bought:

- Ocean of Sound: Aether Talk, Ambient Sound and Imaginary Worlds (Paperback)

- Seven Deadly Colours: The Genius of Nature's Palette and How It Eluded Darwin (Paperback)
(looked quite interesting so i thought i'd give it a go)

and something normal...

- 1001 Drum Grooves

All for around £16!

That should keep me entertained for a while...

I also like Stockhausen's writings. They're very spiritual in an unconventional way (go figure). Unfortuantely, they don't often translate into listenable music
