It's not a question. Just saying that any recordings/sound clips etc are useful to listen to. Just to check out that I like the sound.

Any ideas on the best price for the UX2. I think most places on the net have it at 199 so postage could be the key factor.

I paid an extra 16.00 I think it was for Gold coverage. If anything goes wrong with in 2 years. They will just send me a new one.

Musiciansfriend.com are reliable? I never bought off them. No free shipping to Australia though.
I don't imagine I could get it from Indianapolis Guitar Center online.
Thanks for the info.
I have contacted JRR but no reply for several days. I think that'll be as good as any.

Musicians Friend is very reliable. I have been buying gear for years from them. Never a problem. If they dont ship to Aus. maybe just have a friend in the states get it for you and ship it over. Not sure what type of music stores you have over there, but I assume it will probably cost more.

everything below was done with UX2, Tracktion, ezdrummer, and MXL 991/990 mics.Any examples of how this sounds are useful.
Pedal steel, bass, vocals, guitars, mic'ed acoustics, mandolin, dobro...all of it.
If your looking to hear a more aggressive electric guitar sound the first song at 2:30 has a feedback solo, and the third song has guitar solos at the beginning and end. Be advised that the UX2 does not play nice (horrible burst of defeaning white noise) with some intel chipsets, but this problem is easily overcome by purchasing an external usb hub from radio shack for $40. I like mine and the price is right, but I am no expert and havent tried anything else of this sort. Wll it replace a $3000 vintage tube amp stack mic'ed thru a neve console? No, but for a bedroom rig at the price I think its a terrific value. You may want to check into the new keyboard version as well, basically the same thing but with a built in keyboard midi controller. Cheers.

Just wanted to say I am listening to one of the songs right now. I downloaded them and they have strange names so I don't know which one it is. It sound fantastic. I am not a big country music fan but I really like this music. I am trying to focus on the sounds to analyse the UX2 but I can't seem to get past just enjoying it. Have you used any native processsing within tracktion, like reverb or is it all UX2?chovie d wrote:everything below was done with UX2, Tracktion, ezdrummer, and MXL 991/990 mics.

Could I also ask what guitars you use?

hey thanks guys. I am new to this kind of music myself. Been at it about six months now. I used to play what we called "scum rock", some call it stoner rock ..kind of a blend of punk and metal with loud guitars and growly vocals and lots and lots of marijuana. Real heavy abrassive stuff, so this is quite a change for me. If someone had told me a year ago I'd be making "country" music I never woulda beleived em.
Guitars are:
'79 fender strat, my first real guitar
Seagull 12 string acoustic
Lonestar mandolin
'77? Gibson Grabber Bass
Pedal Steel is a Nashville LTD SD10
Dobro (I dont think any of those four songs have any dobro on em) is a Goldtone Beard Squareneck
Both mics together were $99 from Musicians friend, MXL 990 and 991. Some people dont like em , but they work okay for me and I wouldnt really know the difference between a good mic and a bad one as i dont have alot of experience recording. Effects are primarily from the UX2, mostly just a little reverb. All the vocals are straight from the UX2 vocal presets. The acoustic instruments are mic'ed and then run thru the UX2 preset called, appropriately enough, "acoustic guitar". I do use a little compression on the pedal steel because it has a volume pedal and its hard to get a consistent level. I use the free "Classic Compressor" vst from Jaerhaus. Then I slap Mackies final mix on at the end.
Ive found that the heavy guitar sounds in the UX2 require alot of tweaking and I am still not fully satisfied with those, but its amp "modeling", not a real tube amp (I own several wonderful vintage tube amps)and so I dont have unrealistic expectations and I can do this in my bedroom while the wife is asleep..cannot do that with my 120 watt Sunn or Marshalls. The effects are generally pretty good on the UX2. I especially like the delays and modulation effects.
The vocal presets and bass presets are pretty darn good too. Again, its not a Neve but its also doesnt cost 10K
To hear what other have done in the heavier soundscapes and to read about the problems and bugs people have you should check out the toneport forum here, one thing to search for especially is the "white noise" problem, as that can be frustrating for some. I fixed mine with the usb hub.

They've just updated the drivers and peolpe are complaining alot right now so it looks worse than it is from the posts, besides people tend to only post their problems, not their successes. But hopefully if you scroll thru a few pages there you'll get some heavier sound samples.
The UX2 is not a pro studio, and its not 20 vintage $4000 tube bass and guitar amps, but for what it is, an amp modeler with interface and effects and phantom power, IMHO its a good value at $200. Cheers and best of luck.

I'd even go as far as calling it a fantastic value.chovie d wrote: The UX2 is not a pro studio, and its not 20 vintage $4000 tube bass and guitar amps, but for what it is, an amp modeler with interface and effects and phantom power, IMHO its a good value at $200.
IMO the Line6 guys are still the best when it comes to amp sims.
I've already got more audio interfaces than I'll ever need, but yet I'm considering a Toneport as a handy additional thing.
Unfortunately, the hardware quality doesn't seem to be the best, so I'm not sure whether it'll stand up to my needs. Right now I'm touring a lot, and while I wouldn't use it for anything "real" at all, it'd have to be packed/unpacked, cabled/de-cabled a lot, to serve my needs for some small mobile interface that I may use in backstage and hotel rooms.
