Nevermind - Scarbee is way over my pricerange. 3 different versions, one with 169USD, and two with 79USD each. For this money I could get East West Bass XP, but I don't have the money for it.

So my original question still remains.

So far, nothing doesn't really convince me. Neither Scarbee, nor Warwick, not even Manytone to be honest.

Maybe I just don't know how a bass really sounds.

The Scarbee stuff looks ok (same it's only in limited formats. - What does everyone else think?), - are there any other good realistic Bass Guitar samples around the same price range that I should consider?

Yes, you must not

Scarbee is even better than Trilogy for realistic electric bass. It has both slap & fingered, plus multiple articulations that can be triggered via keyswitches. To top it off, Thomas Skarybee is a bassist.

This library is designed to be amped, so it's not overcompressed.

The Scarbee seems popular, but it's only available in Giga format (or Kontakt/Halion for the combo). I think EXS24 converts from Giga format, doesn't it? - Has anyone used the Scarbee stuff in EXS24? - Does anyone *not* like the Scarbee? - Is it suitable for pop bass sounds?

around 30 Euros each, they have a P-Bass and a Sting Ray (and two great fretless basses).
Really great. Even if you have J Slap'n Fingered - this is a perfect extension of any bass lib

Ok, I think I've narrowed it down to 6 possibilities:

Which do you recommend? - Has anyone had experience with any of the above? - Is there one to avoid?
Which do you think provides the highest quality, most realistic, most usable Bass Guitar samples?
Are there any other decent Basses I haven't included? (not included download-able ones)

I want quality one step up from free soundfonts (etc.), but obviously I don't want to waste money if the quality is no better; so is the quality of the above better than free stuff?

Hi,

I got the Scarbee J-Slap'n fingered. It is a really great product, the best single bass I found so far, but it is, naturally, only the sound of a J-Bass. And there are no picked samples.

I also got Soundscan Electric & Acoutic Bass and Prosamples Real E-Basses. The Soundscan volume is more versatile than the prosamples one. Especially the acoustic bass in the soundscan lib is nice. The real e-basses volume is, however, more complete. It offers fingered and slapped sets as well as slides, harmonics and fx of a j-bass and an Ibanez bass. there is also a warrick fretless bass included.

I don't know about the other libs, but imo you missed some great products on your list:
I would also like to recommend the Ultimate Bass Kit by Manytone Music, and the two new upcoming acoustic basses (I did the Vsampler programming for these). The value for money with these libs is incredible and they have a wonderful character.

And as I suggested in a previous post: don't miss to check the e-basses at www.wizoosounds.com
These are really sampled with great detail and high quality. Together with the J-Sap'n Fingered these basses make an e-bass libary with very little left to desire.

Do those pro samples sound like the demo tunes?

I always wonder how much processing they do on demos or if they are the raw samples.
The demos sound good.

Same question for the soundscan basses.

Those are the two sets that I have been looking at.

Of course it's great for pop! Listen to his demos. A friend of mine has it and I'm considering buying it (I already have Trilogy). The guy loves bass, that's all I can say. The only complaints that I've heard of were that there was too much control over the articulation. Some people felt overwhelmed.

I think the demo was done with the full version (real e-basses is a light version of yellow tools oure e-basses). basically they should sound the same but less articulations and (I guess) less sampled notes. but it cannot compare to the wizoo basses or scarbee (which are imo the two top choices in sound and versatility)

...get the JS&F - programming it is not too hard, but you have to take your time and try to understand how it works. So, one shouldn't be disappointed, if he doesn't come to the desired results in the first five minutes. In the end it comes down to practice and experience - like with any other instrument. People have to remember that they are trying to simulate a realistic bass performance and not programming a drummachine.

By the way, JumpinJackFlash - you should also check out the Warwick bass from Chris Hein.

tricky but freebee: get my Pluggotic JazzPack ReFill from combinatorhq.com, extract the samples with that nasty unofficial refill unpacker and remap wherever you want.
every note has been sampled three times, harmonics & frets noises included.

Good but cheap Bass Guitar samples - Any recommendations?
