I think MIDI should be first, myself: the tool could still work without ASIO and VST bits as a pure sequencer...

A part can play an audio file or an event sequence (aka MIDI sequence).

The choice of using Luna as a teaching platform is because we wanted reach both MAC and PC students, which hopefully will continue with Luna.

Because that's exactly the goal of LUNA: giving a wide range of people easy access to computer sequencing and recording.

double-click on a seq part track. then right-click and edit/open list editor

OK, what would be the easiest / most obvious way to open the list editor?

Maybe:

-> let's keep the current way (as indicated above)
-> let's add a "Edit in List Editor" in the sequence part context menu

The sequence part context menu would then be:

Edit in Piano Roll
Edit in List Editor
+ Part
...
+ Sequence
...

What do you think?

Yes, it needs to be on the context menu at least. I also thought of "L" for "List editor" with the part selected... which would argue for "P" for "Piano roll editor" being available, too... I wasn't expecting to go into the piano roll to get to the list editor, I guess!

OK, it will be in the sequence part context menu in PR4.

Regarding key shortcuts: currently there are only shortcuts for the most basic functions.

I don't want to hardwire shortcuts, but rather come with a user definable shortcut system.

So let's be patient a bit until that subsystem is added.

I added another chapter - VST Automation - to the tutorial. This deals with setting up automation of the Mixer Strips and VSTi's that are enabled for automation.

Yeah, I just read through the whole PR3 thread, and Jo's list of what's new / fixed / better in PR4 sounds great. Since my family time pressures make me more of a dabbler than a serious recordist, I need a host that's easy to come back to. After a quick test drive the other night, I'm thinking that LUNA may prove to be just that.

It's Acid because real-time pitch and tempo matching for audio but I prefer a light host for MIDI. It's only a matter of taste.

BUMP...The tutorial has been a lot of help. I've been playing around with some stand alone sequencers and have finally decided to seriously try my hand at this. I'm using the CMusic 1.5 version and its take me a little time to get accustomed to it. If Luna/CMusic is going to be intended for the novice, it may help to have more basic information about MIDI and the VST plug ins...it took me forever (and a lot of other sources of info) to understand I had to change the channel on my keyboard for the drum synth to work. Anxious to learn more, thanks
