Wow, cool beans! Great job Squids. I think IK will be happy about their decision once they see the big bump in sales that happens once the dongle-less version is out and word gets out about it. Didn't think I'd be saying it, but thanks, IK!

Good for IK!

But seriously, if this thread hits 300 I will shoot myself. Now who wants my death on their conscience?

I forgot about that

I have to admit I'm pleasantly surprised by the dongle-less policy :)

So right now, stealthplug is UB and dongle-less? And did I see something about an update to the "full" version available someday?

Post

You can choose to pick up the AmpliTube 2 upgrade later when it is dongless.... btw, YES it will be dongless. No more dongle! Sans dongle. Dongle no mo! Asta la vista baby! Ciao bella! Bye bye dongle hello free USB ports! WE WON!!!!! I rallied on your behalf to rid ourselves of dongles on IK products and just to let you know that companies DO listen it is going to be done.
Hourrrrraaaaaa !!!!!!!!!!!!

Very very kool.

The only reason I didnt buy the plugin yet is because of me being afraid of system instabilities due to the dongle. Now this issue cleared away, I feel free. My station wil still be dongless and running the BEST software amp ever! :)

Now that I just absorbed that news, one have to wonder why IKMM, after having spent a load of money, decided to remove the dongle alltogether ( very smart decision )

some possibilities are

1)The sales where somewhat of a dissapointment probably due the fact that no one with no dongle where able to demo it to begin with and be impressed with the plugin. IKMM lift the dongles, lot of people gets to try it and be impressed with it and buy it.

2)The sales where a huge success and they recuperated development costs and copy protection licensing costs so they want to have a feel for the sales figures of dongled vs. dongless product. It might blow a new "wind" in the product.

3)There is technical issues with the protection, maybe a Vista compatibality issue ( new Vista kernel access rules etc ), or lots of support due to the dongle and they judged that the risk of piracy is less than the cost of them supporting the customers with all the copy protection issues.

4)maybe the copy protection of Amplitube2 has been pirated so there is no need for it anymore because it ended up not being as robust as anticipated and now is more of a nuisance to real users instead of a deterrent for illigitemate ones.

What do you guys think?

Squids, if you know it, can you share with us the reason why IKMM is going dongless after having launched the product as dongled ones? Maybe it can help us understand better what is happening on the market as far as copy protection is concerned.

Post

So Squids, can you say anything about the latency of the StealthPlug?
I *will* buy either that or the M-Audio JamLab - based solely on latency figures. Sure, Amplitude Live will be a welcomed addition, but my main concern isn't any software but latencies as low as possible.

I'm touring so much right now that I just need a quickly accessable ultra-portable audio interface, wasting less space than my FW-410.

Those who can do maths and those who can't.

I wondered the same thing. I'm guessing (and it's pure speculation)that it's some combination of #1 and #3. I didn't think of #2 and #4.

I don't think it's #2. Because if sales were great, I doubt they would change anything.
