What happens to Tracktion if Mackie goes out of business?

Well, the mackie site is down and I can't move traction to a different PC and my friend can't activate his copy. So what happens if the company goes bust? This is why I hate having to activate software - you pay your money but you could be left with a dead product..

Anyone know what has happened to the mackie site?

Would they release a free key if they did go bust?

Post

jules always said before the 'buyout' that if it all went tits up he would release a free key ... absolutely no idea whether mackie would honour that though ...

... the mackie site has AFAICR always been flaky and slow ... usually reappears after a day or so though ...

Won't happen, Mackie is owned by Steinberg which is now owned by Yamaha.

A friend in the industry tells me that mackie is going down the tubes really fast too. It's too bad. I really like a lot of their products, including tracktion. I never would have guessed that Mackie could go down. Apparently it has less to do with sales and more with internal BS. Hopefully it's just rumors and I'm full of shit.

They're owned by LOUD Technologies, who own ALOT (Ampeg, Crate, Yairi, Tapco, EAW etc) - I doubt they're going anywhere anytime soon.

Is this recent? The rumors I heard were a few months old, so maybe this was the solution to their financial problems?

Mackie are owned by Coca-Cola, who in turn are part of the Disney group, which is majority owned by Microsoft. They should be okay for a while yet.

I was afraid of that. He's a studio musician with some minor sponsorship from a few major companies. He's not the type to bullshit, but he's definitely the type to take the bullshit of his salesmonkey friends as gospel. Thanks.

Hi guys,

I'm in a similar situation...

My tracktion copy went down and I need to reinstall, but I cannot download the soft, since Mackie site is 3 days off now...

Any idea where to get the soft? I'm a registered user since version 1..

I'm really concerned about it.
Nobody from mackie explaining this situation here. :(

The computer system corresponding to the IP address for www.mackie.com is up and running, but not the webserver, it would seem.
