btw, I have a copy of the "Bass Collection" and it has some problematic samples, particularly with attack times being off. Is there an update for that? I seem to recall it was a known issue.
If you have the first version perhaps. The latest version shouldn't have any. But that's probably better to discuss in the SR forum I think than in the AT thread. I think the easiest is a replacement disc swap for the new one.

I know who you are by the way. ;)

Sweet! And thanks for the response.

Gorgeous, Sweet, Amazing!!!!

What a sound....forget about GR2 man...this thing is IT.

It even beats my XTLive for cleans and mild-heavy tones...Well done IK!

The only thing going for my XTLive over AT2 is the hot sounds and distortions.

The other reason why XTLive beats AT2 is the community out there. The custom tones website for the POD has thousands of tones available ready for download and customisation.

If IKMM wants AT2 to be a huges success they better cleanup their act and open a website a la "myamplitube.com" that users can share their tones at. For me this have been a big miss so far for IKMM.

You are correct. Also your review was good. I agree with most of your points except maybe the one about the high gain sounds because I have heard some killer tones on this (even just the other day I was blown away by someone's music done with it and it was HEAVY stuff!). But, it depends on the player and their guitar. I don't know how great I would be personally at getting the ultimate high gain tones myself especially since I am more for bluesy tones and fuzzy 70's rock tones. By the way I am totally jealous about your Fender Deluxe. I want one badly! But, the new ones only come in freakin' BROWN (and if you're lucky you can find a white or black one). I want a sunburst one and a friend has a vintage one he might sell me... but it is some bucks. The new ones are very reasonably priced although they may very well not sound as good... sorry, I should have asked first what year is yours? ;)

I love your suggestions for pedals and that's the kind of stuff I like to hear about big time. I make notes of requests like that and make suggestions for things to model. It's a big thrill for me the developers across the pond modeling even my own personal pedals (my Fuzzface, MXR and CE-1 were modeled in AT2). I even have a few others still there yet to be modeled. I can't reveal too much on that of course but I will say that when it comes to wahs I may have the best sounding wah on the planet! It is a vintage Vox Wah and man that pedal just sounds AWESOME! I used to use it in Kevin Gilbert's band on a Wurlitzer. Pure liquid. Great on guitars, keys or even vocals! Haha. So... maybe some day that will be modeled and other gear we all lust for.

Speaking of gear we lust for, I used to own a great little Supro amp. It was the same one used on early Led Zep records. I sold it because apparently there is a tube in there that if it goes it can't be replaced. This another reason I love modeling in software because it is easy to forget that some sounds are as fragile and rare to preserve as THAT!!!! Anyone who has paid a fortune to get their hardware repaired or even had the shop say it COULDN'T be repaired knows what I am talking about there! The Supro modeled in AT2 isn't that same model but it sounds great for that vintage smaller amp sound.

Not sure if the distortion is going for the RAT or not but I don't think so. I agree it's nice. There are a lot of nice distortion options in AT2 although I love distortion and would not say no to more. But modulation effects are sweet and I can't have enough of them either. The model of the MXR phaser in AT2 is just phenominal to me and I realllllllly love the Echo Man which is the emulation of an EH Memory Man. That's just pure Radiohead type effects there ... or Adrian Belew/Crimson. A Dimension D would be nice. I actually picked one of those up fairly recently and the price wasn't too bad luckily. I am a big fan of classic Roland/Boss effects. Well, speaking of modulation, you gotta love that model of the Boss CE-1 chorus/vibrato pedal in AT2! That pedal is considered by many to be the best chorus ever made. I gotta tell you I was not that happy with the chorus in AT1. It was okay but lacked depth and character. AT2's CE-1 model gives that times 10.

Hah... well after almost 300 pages we realize that it isn't a contest or anything. Anyone can choose to like it or not like it, favor one plug or another for whatever their reasons are in discussion. But, at least now you guys have a demo to try out for yourselves to simply see if you find it a musically useful tool for you! In many ways it is like 85 plug-ins in one because it models at least 85 pieces of guitar processing gear (plus simulating the mics and everything else). Surely there's going to be something in there that makes it worth getting for most musicians with virtual studios. I don't think I've done a song without it on something and I am surprised how many times I've been willing to just not bother miking up a hardware guitar amp. If the sound works it works! Hearing it in context of your own music is the best test IMHO.

Oh yeah, Funky one, I disagree with you about the presets. I've always thought that IK's presets are among some of the best. AT1's presets were very much loved. TRackS's presets too. Of course you know I am personally involved in the SampleTank presets and ST based products. But, AT2's presets are really great I think! There's one called Ethereal Autofilter or something like that and it is beautiful. All kinds of helpful quick sounds there. But, like you I tend to make my own from scratch so I get to exactly what I want if I hear something in my head... plus it is fun to just experiment that way. Each person works differently though and I know a lot of musicians that depend on the presets. I think they get a nice offering but certainly there can be more... we're going to do some banks on www.esoundz.com and also there might be some other things on the IK forum (another thing I have been suggesting on behalf of the many people I've talked to who have requested it... and like to turn the SR forum into the IK forum which I cannot handle!!!! haha. So, it looks like there will be an official IK forum and I will be one of the main moderators. I am looking for people that want to be moderators though so hit me up if anyone is interested. They simply have to be knowledgeable about the products, friendly and helpful to others... similar maybe to the way I do it or Kim from esoundz and others who partiicpate in threads like this or in the SR forum. Am I still in parenthesis? Here). That's better. I am technically a little bit drunk at the moment by the way. Too much sake (but it was sooooo good! Squids and sushi go together). Ok.

By the way A3ntar you should be proud starting a thread with 160,000+ views and 300 pages. Where is in the KVR stats I wonder.

#2 on both counts:

While I'm not sure pride is how I would feel in this situation, to each his own I guess.

LOL, although I started the thread, the rest of it was a team effort!
A bit unfair because the number 1 threads are at least 1 year older than this thread, but hey, we will take a second position anytime :)

Squids, have you, or IKMM given a dedicated (not a forum, but only tones exchange) tones exchange website a thought? Exactly like Line6's custom tone (http://line6.com/customtone/)

Simple one click upload and donwload. I forsee it being very popular.

Hey, I thought of a name for that amplitube tone sharing website :

amplitone.com

I tried the demo for a few hours, and I'love to bitch about it but I must say it's pretty good overall. So why the hell does the sound samples on IKM website suck so bad? I don't get it...
3 complaints as far as I'm concerned:
The stomp boxes can't be dragged and dropped and switched on the slots (or I failed to figure how to do it). Not a big deal though...
The mic placement options are too limited, sometimes I wished that I could physically move it by a few inches. You know, just in between on axis and off axis position.(Am I anal? ;))
The Hi-gain sounds are ok but a bit less effective than the other sounds... Not bad, but not tight enough for some type of riffing.
Anyway, I'm glad the decided to drop the dongle and would consider buying it in the near future.

Second impressions:
--------------------

After having spent a few more hours with AT2 here are my second impressions.

The good:
---------
  • -The overall sound is very good. The cleans are amazing, the mild gain ones are very good.
-The interface is slick and intuitive
    -A bonus SpeedTrainer player
The bad:
--------
  • -The presets could be a lot better. Take Carlos #1 and #2 for example, these sound dont even come close to a true Santana rig. GR2 does it *MUCH* better.
-The high gain sounds are just "OK"
-No midi input configuration to control the pedals? (wah for example) / standalone
-The mic positioning could be a little more flexible
-No drag and drop of the stomps if the chaining order is to be switched
-The metronome click cannot be changed to our own sound...The default sound gave me a headache after 30 seconds
-No user accessible site to download extra presets or tones. No sharing community.
The ugly:
---------
  • -The picth shifting and especially the time stretching mechanism on the SpeedTrainer are *really* bad. Even that open source time stretching library could have done a better job!
-No TAP tempo ! what a miss! how can you have nowadays a tempo only configured via a knob?! The tempo should allow tap and set ( using spacebar for example or mouse click on the BPM value)
-The noise gate seems to be tied to the Presets! What the heck, I almosy went deaf when I switched to a high gain sound and it resetted to default the noise gate! There should be an option ( maybe a checkbox ) next to the noise gate to unlink it from Presets, meaning that when I load a preset, the noise gate stays the same as before the loading of the preset.

That's it for now.

Please post your impressions.

The "VIP-Soren Reiff-High Gain" preset is actually a pretty decent high gain sound. Nice and tight. Even tighter if you go into the rack and turn off the delay and reverb.

I am digging the demo. The amp sims are (imo) better than GR2. GR2 does still win in the crazy FX dept, though.

Hopefully IK dropping the dongle will work out for them. If so maybe more companies will do the same.

I wonder why the demo only gave me 5 days instead of 10. 4 days left of which I don't have much computer time. Universal Audio gives you 2 weeks, which is great for building an informed and thorough opinion on the plug.

I've rolled back to 2.0 till this gets figured out.

I got the same problem in Sonar 6. Let me know if anyone solves this problem.

don't know if this is the same problem but I've posted a workaround that worked for me in the Sonic Reality-Forum, I repost it here:
I also had Sonar 6 crashing when loading old tunes that use AT2. However what seems to work, is to load the song with shift pressed, so that Sonar asks for each plugin to be loaded, then load all but AT2, insert (a) new AT2 instance(s) and resave the song. After that it loads and plays fine again on my system. Maybe worth giving it a try...

And I told you so 6 month ago but nobody listened.

By the way I have problems in Tracktion2.
Old songs with AT2 become unstable and crash.
The work around is to delete AT2.1 as soon as you "force open" the song then do a "UNDO", this way AT2 gets loaded back in with the same settings.
After that things seem to be stable.

But Andrew, six months ago this still had a dongle :P .
