i think it could have lots of gui's couldnt it , heck maybe everyone could design their own. is there an easy way to add your own gui , if not, there should be.!

Don't worry I can live with that. I just thought those knobs are rather space wasters and nick seemed to like these knobs better.spacedad wrote:call me old-fashioned,but i like the original(v0.6)
no offence TSV,it's just those big old tubes give it that wow factor.

Looks pretty sweet TSV.

That is excellent work, TSV. I, like spacedad, liked the original GUI just fine. But now that it's gone, I'd love to see this one implemented. Have you contacted Nick Crow about it yet? I'm pretty sure I saw his email in the readme file.

If you have a VST host on Win98, I'm fairly sure it'll work there.sc_a wrote:Looks so shiny! When it will be for download? Does work on Windows 98?
To interrupt this "OMG GUI IS COOLz!" thing a bit... I got some questions regarding this plugin. I know that saturators add some sort of distortion, but in this case I'm not so sure. Let me write down what I think this thing does (knobwise) and please correct me if I'm wrong:
Voltage: This thing is in charge of how strong the signal get's into the tube. You can see this as input gain, right?
Drive: This adds the distortion to the signal (an additional gain, but causes overload on the signal). But why has is negative values? (if the VST plugin is loaded, it's knob is set to the middle)
Bias: This is the only thing I don't get what it does. If I turn it up without everything else on, it adds fuzz - but isn't that the same as drive with it's distortion? Even here, why does it have negative values?
Volume: Okay this is simple - controls the output level.
Furthermore... can it be that the "voltage" adds some kind of humming/hissing to the signal (noise floor)? Or do my ears just fool me?
Due to the fact that the manual isn't available yet, I'd love to if somebody could fill me in on this. Thanks.
EDIT:
And yeah, the voltage knob does barely anything for me either. Just "subtle" if ever. Using Wavelab 4 on my end.

+1, but numerical readout would be nice ...
also, only linear mouse begaviour (shift click = fineest resolution) ...
then thats it, if you ask me ...

This might help explain what bias does:Compyfox wrote:Bias: This is the only thing I don't get what it does. If I turn it up without everything else on, it adds fuzz - but isn't that the same as drive with it's distortion? Even here, why does it have negative values?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grid_bias

The top waveform is a drum beat, the bottom is that drumbeat through the tube driver with voltage, drive, and bias set to 100% and volume set to 50%. That should give you an idea of what's going (think DC offset/fixed value voltage signal added).

God my electronics knowledge (and I learned that stuff) is totally rusted in.
So the volume knob adjusts the signal preasure (voltage, the higher it is, the stronger the signal) and the bias controls the wheter or not this signal will be overdriven (and therefore the phase alters) or ads more balance (negative value) which can cause phase inversion (nullifying) of the signal.
To be honest - I have no friggin idea what that means.
Head-a-splode. *poof*
Someone try to tell me the function in a simple way please. My head is no lexica and I'm way out of this stuff for far too long (not to mention that I never really got it in the first place - haha). This is why I go by ears, and not theory.

According to the readme file in v0.6:
Code: Select all
BIAS - controls the character of distortion:
The most right position of the knob provides unsymmetrical signal waveform restriction which causes more even harmonics occurence.
The most left position of the knob provides the most symmetrical signal waveform restriction which causes even+odd harmonics occurence.
The subjectively perceptuated distortion also decreases along with turning the BIAS knob from the left to the right.-

Tech stuff can be interesting but in this case I don't think I care what the plugin actually does - 4 knobs, damn easy to dial in settings that just make stuff sound good. Full, round, lovely. I don't know if this is anything that couldn't be done with other saturators, eqs and gain plugins, but why not use this one?
Gets the job done.

yeah,i don't usually go for space-waste either.TSV wrote:Don't worry I can live with that. I just thought those knobs are rather space wasters and nick seemed to like these knobs better.spacedad wrote:call me old-fashioned,but i like the original(v0.6)
