My English is not very good, that's why I add posts here very seldom (usually with the help of my daugther, who is frequently busy), but I read all your messages every day, translate them and take them into account during my work. All your notices are very important for me.

I also like TSV's gui. +1 from me.

Mr Nick Crow? How about it? Would you be willing to use TSV's gui? It would really add a bit of visual class to your plugin, which sounds great by the way!

One of best 8)

VOLTAGE adjust tube anode voltage (0% - maximal voltage, 100% minimal voltage).
BIAS adjust tube grid voltage (0% - more positive voltage, 100% more negative voltage).

Ah... now this clears a lot. And how does the drive knob work in this case? Cause it's (like all other knobs) in middle position at default. Does that mean if I just fired up TubeDriver, it already colors the sound in "default" mode?

And wouldn't it be better if the knobs all start at 0 rather than in the middle or at 10? (in case for the BIAS)?

Yep. But even if the knobs defaulted at 0 it wouldn't necessarily mean that the unit is in some sort of 'virtual bypass' mode.

Also, bear in mind that amount of gain and amount of voltage supplied to the tube are two completely unrelated parameters. Gain controls the amount of distortion by controlling the level of the signal fed to the overdriving stages, operating voltage is more about the 'flavor' of said distortion. And it's pretty awesome that this plugin lets you tweak it. You can experiment with 'starved' designs and all kinds of cool stuff.

It'd be better if all knobs went to 11, for me. At least the 'Gain' one :D

Post

BTW: Nick, how many gain stages did you put in TubeDriver? Do you think it would be useful to have a switch to turn on/off some of them? At least in guitar preamps, cascaded designs with a lot of stages slightly distorting sound a lot better than fewer stages distorting more.

And another vote here for the TSV skin. Good work :D

There is no "gain". At least not as input.
There's just Voltage, Drive, Bias and Volume - in that order.

And I thought having everything at 0 rather than where it's in default (all in the middle) is a bit better for soundshaping. And I still want more preset possibilties for saving certain setups. But this is no full release yet but beta. We will see what Nick offers us.

Sorry, I call Drive 'Gain' - force of habit :)

Well still. All knobs at default are in middle position:
Volume in middle means 50% tube anode voltage. So it already does something

Drive is at middle position, too. Which means it's also already coloring the sound (cause it's amplifying and "overdriving" the signal already)

Tube grid voltage is at 50% - is that neutral or not?

Volume is at "center" position. That's the only knob where you can say it doesn't lower the volume, or raise it dB wise. It's sitting at 0dB.

You see the problem there? Especially in terms of GUI design.
