It really depends. There's no straight answer to that question. When I scored a smalltime MMORPG back in May-June, I got paid 300 dollars for roughly 65 minutes worth of music, some of which ended up not being used. I recently got paid around 200 bucks for about 46 minutes worth of music from another MMORPG I scored. One time I even got paid only 10 dollars for a whole ten song soundtrack. But keep in mind that I make it a point to get ripped off because it makes it easier to get work and build my portfolio.ugo wrote:btw, what would equate to chump change in that business? i dont mean to ask for specific figures, just a ballpark. i dont think i have the time or patience to do much soundtracking for free but i understand that i couldnt expect to ask for a lot either from a small dev and with my small (and at this point, gameless) portfolio.
It's good to charge by the minute. For every minute of music you compose, charge some money.
Just use your judgment and talk it out with the developers before you do anything.
Edit: Also, take my advice with a grain of salt. I'm still working my way up and have a lot to learn myself, so yeah. I do things my way, but for all I know, my way is wrong.
