Crossover and Wireless Laptop

I've searched through the forum, but can't find any answers to my problem.
I'm trying to connect to my Receptor via a crossover cable from a laptop that has a wireless internal card. Do I need to disable any wireless systems my laptop is trying to find?
I have not been able to get the receptor to stay in "Crossover" mode. It keeps going back to "Auto...".
Also, I was able to connect for a short time by connecting to my hub via a regular ethernet cable. I started to transfer some files, but they were taking almost 2 hours to transfer (EWQLSO Gold), so I thought maybe I should try to connect via the Crossover again.
When I was connected to my hub, I was able to get Receptor to stay in Crossover mode, but the minute I connect crossover cables, it reverts back to Auto.
Should I just unplug my dsl line all together? Is disabling them in my laptop enough?

I tried disabling the wireless zero configuration, and that didn't do anything.
For some reason I can't get Receptor to change from "Auto" mode, even if I reboot the Receptor with no cables attached.
I welcome any further suggestions. I didn't think this was going to be that difficult to get to work.

I have zone labs protection on my laptop, which I think might be the problem. It's described on plugorama.com. It says I need to chang the "ICS" configuration.
I can get to that area, but not sure if I should be selecting "This computer is a client of an ICS/NAT gateway" OR "This computer is an ICS?NAT gateway".
In any case, if I click either option, it asks me for the IP address of the ICS gateway. Should the IP address of the Receptor go in there?
