Lol..
What a waste of good forum room. Arguing what is best, takes me back to good old days of sega or nintendo.
I switched to mac half a year ago, after 40 minutes of turning it on, i laughed at my XP machine, HARD.
But seriously, i do still use windows (rebirth eh?).
Both systems have + and -, and to be honest, windows is just for everybody and to make money for MS, mac is for work, hard work. Pretty much everone at my school (academy of popmusic) has a mac, except those that like FL and warez...
I dont care the first thing about FL studio, but it's an easy app, and easy is allways good for music-production.
Our first assignment at school involed creating a track in just a few days, and we didnt even know who the members of our group would be, good thing FL was installed at the school-studio's.
So i say yes to FL on mac. Yields result fast if you need it to.

@parma: Really. I never knew you could do that. Cool, I retract my statement.
Not that you're not entitled to this perspective... but you're the FIRST person I've ever seen refer to a PC as an "average joe" machine while a Mac was for "hard work". Even the Mac ads bill Macs as everyday fun machines for average users while PCs are professional solutions for professional worl...JiGGY247 wrote:windows is just for everybody and to make money for MS, mac is for work, hard work.
Eventually I'd want to see it happen just because I know that in 4 years I'll be on a Mac running PT (against my will) and I don't want to give it up. But for now I know it won't happen.JiGGY247 wrote:I dont care the first thing about FL studio, but it's an easy app, and easy is allways good for music-production.

There have *always* been people who bash Apple, without even knowing what they are talking about.parma wrote:um, things I've installed very easily in my G4: new memory, new hard drive, new optical drive, new soundcard, even a new frickin CPU.Toxikator wrote: Seriously, show me a Mac that you can take the back off of, stuff new RAM into, a new hard drive, a new graphics card, a new onboard soundcard... show me a mac that you can upgrade for 5 years.
And by *always*, I mean, I have had this experience ever since 1977. Specifics may change, but the argument has been the same.
And, yes, I still have the Apple II that I bought in '77, and it still works. And I still have the Mac II that I bought almost 10 years later to the day -- it still works too... Trade both for a new Macbook pro. (Trade both, plus 2 laptops, a Toshiba Satellite P4 and a Sony P4 for a Macbook Pro, in all seriousness

One hilarious thing to me about Fruity Loops not being on mac is that they both share the same stigma. In the sense that macs are lampooned by hard core computer geeks as too hard wired, and set up for the computer illiterate, while FL is the DAW for the music illiterate.
Fruity loops, the app that pros make fun of for not being complex enough, too easy and too geared towards people who are not musicians in the strictest sense of the word, ( seriously, I know a lot of FL wiz kids that can't play an instrument ), I'm not saying this as a slight, I respect ANY music made by anybody that moves me, no matter if it's all sequenced in by mouse, or played on a grand piano.
But you have to admit it's ironic that the DAW slighted for being too geared towards 'user friendly' by the music "pros" is adamantly opposed to the platform that's slighted for being too 'user friendly' by the computer "pros"!

Not here, though you get the occasional 'macs are the only pro choice' types here, they never last. It's pretty much a common theme for people to call Apple and mac users all kinds of crap here. Try being a mac user here, and at some point people will call your choice of computer elitist, computers for the computer illiterate, overpriced, etc. In the world of KVR music, macs are considered the wrong choice...Toxikator wrote:
True... though in the world of music Macs aren't considered "unprofessional", PCs are...
I think the only reason macs are considered 'professional' in the music industry is the prevalence of Pro Tools studios running macs. Pretty easy really to see why that would be, the plug in choice last time I checked was better on the mac side, and the hardware being homogenous to a degree lends itself to less issues. I suppose if Apple didn't exist, you would see Compaq or Dell as a music industry standard....

Haha, a very interesting read and a *lot* or boring old ground covered. At
the end of the day Macs are designed for creativity, PCs are designed for
the office. If you're such a geek that you select your DAW system based on
whether you can update the components, you're missing the whole point of
creating music.

Quantity does not equal quality.Toxikator wrote:YOu really think the plugin choice is better for Mac? I've not yet seen a Mac-only plugin, except one color synthesizer and some cycling'74 stuff. Meanwhile about half the freebies on KvR are PC only, including z3ta+, Synth1 (I believe), etc.

that is true it does not. However, quantity DOES equal choice, and more plugins means a higher probability of finding quality ones.
You could argue that it's better to have a few stable, well-thought-out plugins, but then that sort of reinforces the idea that the Mac knows better than you what you want.

one hilarious thing is that, ultimately, every thread where pc and mac are mentioned, turns into a pointless "you" "no you" "no, YOU" -challenge.

Quantity simply means you have an even bigger pile of rubbish to sift through to try and find something half decent. I'd much prefer to have a handful of stable well thought out plug-ins and get to learn how to use them properly rather than flit from one average plug-in to another in the vain search for something that sounds good and is useable.Toxikator wrote:that is true it does not. You seem to assume that having 500 plugins available for download means you have to HAVE 500 installed on your computer.
your case is more like saying "I hate buying my guitars at the Guitar Center, they have too many to choose from! Sometimes I just want to not have a choice regarding what I buy".
Having a larger market is not the same as having a fuller VST Plugins folder.
