well, if you count them all together, it's all there (or at least a lot), but it has to be one plugin ...
sofar bitshifts phatmatik pro is closest, still it has so much left what could be added which others got, so here's my list:
  • 01. drag'n drop one/multiple slice/s straight to the drive.
    02. drag'n drop a slice directly to the audio track of your host sequencer.
    03. drag'n drop a loop.wav directly into the slicer plugin from the drive (desktop f.e.).
    04. drag'n drop a loop.wav directly into the slicer plugin from an audiotrack of your host sequencer.
    05. seperate slice endpoint adjusting (without affecting the nexts slices starpoint).
    06. drag'n drop midi information not only to a miditrack, but straight to the drive as a conventional midifile (i.e. desktop).
    07. rendering indifidual slices with envelopes (amp, filter?)and fx (if it has any), selectable.
    08. mute slices.
    09. reordering slices.
    10. rendering the whole sliced and fully edited loop (drag'n drop/to disk, i.e. desktop?).
    11. rex support (load+save).
    12. acidloop support (load+save).
    13. apple loop support (load+save).
    14. timestretch/shrink and pitch of individual slices (stretch synced to host?).
    15. multilane slicing, so that one can build his loop from different loops.
    16. multi out's (adjustable).
    17. low cpu usage
if that all would be in one vsti, i'd buy it right away.
and yes, +100 for a dev. callenge on kvr.
i'm guessing a lot of these will be in ext2's sampler (at least most of the points regarding host integration).
Now save those other juicy bits for FRs when the time is appropriate ;)

easy done:
copy/paste ... ;)
but yes, if jorgen is into doing these features, i'd not say no, of course ... :)

but the whole point of a slicer is that its lean and mean on the outside and got all of those features that sascha and brok want on the inside + workflow!! a slicer that is inside of another host defeats the purpose no matter how much you love the host. this is a Slicer contest we're talking about here.......lets get down to it, whom should we send out invites/challenges to?

Post

In this case the developers should be allowed to make it a commercial product...

The multilane slicing brok mentioned: +1!!!
Make one loop out of several, replace samples in an instant. Yummy!
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

Definitely need something like this on the Mac. Other than Phatmatik and ReCycle, two old beasties, I don't really know of any others on Mac.

I'd love to see more good sample manipulation stuff out there, but I'm not sure that a slicer specific dev contest would generate enough interest and momentum to go very far.

Maybe if there's another general dev contest, then people could contribute specific prizes for categories of app they'd like to see more of?

Post

I really think slicer specific is the only way that cats will really focus and get down to it, supposedly they're easier to make than synths and its a field that has really been neglected on this level, you can see by the sample slicer threads here and on abletons site that there is a huge need and alot of holes to be addressed, somebody is going to have a big hit on their hands if they just step up.
like I said i'm willing to contribute $100 for the prize.

Ubiety check this out, it's not a vst but its what got me to buy a mac.

Since you're on the subject...anyone have a favorite free slicer...I think mines arcDev.H4xx0r simply cause it's got multiple outs(4 stereo pairs)..none of the other free ones I could find have that.
On a similar note..anyone have a favorite vst slicer free or not?

more bloatware beatslicers, thats what we need.

a simple PC/Mac multi-timbral multi out auto slicer with some random functions and preset support would be very nice.

it wont happen though.

16 lfos, 48 filters, vst fx support, can host other slicers, sfz sf2 akai import, can decode reason refills, (sorry but linux support is taking priority over adding the giga import)

auto compose mode is in the works :)

:hihi:

----I can't see anyone bothering to make one for less than several grand realistically. And then why bother, it would have to be better than the dozen or so available now, or it wouldn't sell. That said, I am waiting to see what the new Audio Damage beat-related plug is about, should be more news on that early in 2007.

well I hope both you cats are wrong on this one, cause there is a place and need for a vst slicer with the suggestions in this thread right now.
if any of you developers are ready to get into it lets make this thing happen, it would be a good time to do it.
