Hi,
I;ve been loving zebra for a couple of months now, but i've had problems with my pc suddenly reseting when working on stuff with zebra in.
I use it with ableton and as far as i can tell the crashes happen randomly. It happens even when i'm not touching zebra settings, working on other bits and then - click - pc restarts.
Does zebra create a crash log? if so can i send it somewhere to get help?
If anyone has any advice i'd be grateful..
tim.

I can definately say that Zebra does not contain code that can restart a pc. I wouldn't even know how to do that...
Have you tried recreating this problem while *not* using Zebra?

hmm.
well it happened the second day i used zebra i think.. i was moving one osc above another one and then it restarted, but since then its happened when i'm not even touching settings.
always happens when i have zebra in a track though.
i dont know with regard to blue screens, to be honest can't remember ever having one on this setup, and i definately haven't changed any settings relating to whether they appear or not.
i'm using ableton 6 on win xp on a amd athlon 3500+ cpu, its not overclocked or anything. the most cpu usage i've had on ableton when using zebra is about 40%.
its just the fact that it seems to happen so randomly which makes it near impossible for me to replicate.

Hmmm. How much ram do you have? Do you also use a sampler?
If it is related to Zebra, I can only suspect that it is being loaded into troublesome regions of ram. Total system crashes are hardly ever problems with software (it crashes, but it doesn't bring the system down), they are most likely related to hardware (i.e. faulty ram, bad usb cables) and to drivers respectively.
The weirdest thing that happened to me was faulty ram: Got Kernel Panics every couple of days, even after unloading all drivers. The memory test passed, so I didn't even think about ram. After two weeks of desperate search I swapped all ram bricks as a last resort - boom - no more Kernel Panics.
Doesn't mean that it's ram in your case, but a crash that *restarts* your computer has been unheard of in relation to Zebra (or any other plugin) and definately hints to something more serious, either something like a short circuit, driver wars or - well, another possibility - some sort of malware rubbing up deep areas.

Start>Control Panel>System>Advanced (tab)> Settings and Recovery SETTINGS button (at the bottom of the window)
then make sure there is NOT a checkmark in the "automatically restart" box
if there is remove it and hit ok..
then you should get a blue screen upon an error..
if you dont get a blueescreen yet still get a reboot then uhmm.. I'm guessing you have something a lot bigger wrong with your computer than zebra...

awesome.
well, i unchecked the 'automatically restart' box for start.
As i said before it is totally random when it happens so i'll have to wait around and see when i next happens.
i have a gig of ram. i use zebra usually with battery3 running as well. Ive been using battery since 3 came out, which is what er about 2 months now? and never had any problems until i started putting zebras in the tracks.
oh well, i'll let you know if i can think of anything else..
at least in theory now i should get the good old blue screen for warning.. cant remember the last time i saw one of those..

Hello. Thanks for everyone who replied with advice.
Computer started restarting outside of ableton, in fact anywhere it felt like which ruled out it being a zebra issue.
Turns out my south bridge fan had died so it kept overheating.
Got a new one from asus the next day and everythings back to normal.
Cheers guys
