OK. I've downloaded and tried it. Unfortunately the demo version doesn't seem to allow importing sysex. The online documentation also only makes mention of DX7 and TX81z sysex import, not DX21/27/100. Now there is of course a chance that it will just work, but I can't try that or compare the imported sounds to e.g. Phantom, Foorius or Rhino.

I picked up a TX-81Z on ebay for $34, including shipping. It's a pretty faithful representation of 4op fm, is very light on the cpu, and has a very unobtrusive copy protection scheme. :hihi:

Are you talking hardware or software?

I have had the FM7 (Native Inst.) DX-7 knock-off for several years and it's one of the 2 or 3 soft-synths I always come back to.

I don't know if they even make/sell it anymore...? I think it was included in an NI bundle I purchased back in 2002 or so.

Anyway, it's a great FM simulation that - imho - outshines even the hardware version of the TX81Z (which I have also owned).

I've got a TX81Z in the rack sitting next to me. I can't remember the last time I even turned it on. It had some interesting sounds back in it's day. The DAC was not very good though and produced a pretty gritty sound to my ears. Any of you guys remember spending weeks programming FM synths when they first came out? Before I got married and had kids, my favorite pastime was creating patches of FM and additive synths. I haven't touched either in years. It's become too time consuming. You almost have to make a decision between being a programmer or a musician.

You should try FM8 it can import every DX and TX SYX Patches! 8)
Except for the TX802 for some odd Reason???

Post

Are you 100% sure that FM-8 actually imports DX21 patches? I downloaded the demo last weekend and the documentation only mentions that it can import DX7 & DX200 sysex. The demo has the import function disabled so I couldn't try it out.

The FM7 and FM8 Loads Sysex Patches of the DX7, DX7-II, DX11, TX81Z, TX7, DX21, DX27, DX100 and DX200. It says it loads TX802 Patches but it doesn't??? I'm 100% sure it loads all but the TX802 because I own FM8 and I have loaded all those patch types with no problem at all.

It WILL load TX802 patches as long as they're single voice data. I've loaded some TX802 voice sysex into FM7 before; I haven't tried it with FM8 though.

i am act, :x ed of at Foorius ,cos it dont stay in sync....usually helps for a smooth runin tune....Derrrrrrr JPU4eaBeat: :x

Foorius has trouble importing the envelopes. They sound fine and work, but the envelopes have to edited manually to avoid huge CPU consumption.

Might be because the multipoint envelopes are pretty strange in Foorius.

Yup! It won't play some of my TX81Z patches tho..too complex?
