I bought Zebra2 a little while back and just love it! I'm still green to programming synths, but i'm learning. Lot'sa power here to keep me busy for a very long time. Just tweaking some of the included presets is awesome. Thanks again!

Thank you dabb!
You'll soon get a bit more to play with. I rendered a little demo song for a new filter module yesterday:

All patches use the new filter (XMF - Cross Modulation Filter). Its cutoff can be modulated i.e. by an oscillator and it has a pretty moog-style overdrive. It'll be in Zebra 2.1 which will naturally be a free update
Cheers,
Urs

It's always only been a myth that XMF stands for Xtreme MothaFuckabeej wrote:I like it's original name better..

And this is yet another reason why Zebra2 is so worth the price. Other companies (cough)NI(cough) would add this to a .5 or .0 release and charge an upgrade fee.Urs wrote:It'll be in Zebra 2.1 which will naturally be a free update![]()
Small developers like Urs rock!

Not yet. The problem here is quality vs. performance - currently most of Zebra2.0 can live *without* any oversampling. The only exceptions are Ringmodulation (2x oversampled) and the new XMF (4x oversampled). If the oscillators were available for modulation of any mod target, everything in Zebra would have to be at least 4x oversampled, thus taking about 2.5 - 3.5 times the cpu consumption it currently does... so, this is not viable unless everybody has at least an 8 x 5 GHz OctaCore processor at home...kingtubby wrote:Are there plans to make oscillators available as a general mod-source Urs?
Mart.
However, I'd do it immediately if there was a chance to do it right...

That's the point I guess...if it's not currently realistic then it's understandable.Urs wrote:However, I'd do it immediately if there was a chance to do it right...
My knowledge of the technical stuff you describe is limited to say the least
Thanks,
Mart.

Yes, I guess it *could* be done, but the architecture would have to be designed for such. My stuff is designed for a tradeoff between quality vs. performance that I find optimal. In this case all modulations run at 1/4 of the samplerate - which is more than accurate enough for envelopes, lfos and such, but hardly enough for audio rate modulation. Hence the introduction of FMOs for FM-type sounds and now the XMF for FilterFM. However, the normal oscillators would have to be at least 4x oversampled to take audio rate modulation of pitch or pulse width, while audio rate modulation of the osc fx is virtually impossible.
However, if I knew what you would love to modulate, maybe there's a chance to come up with something?

TBH, with the addition of the XMF along with the FMO's about 3/4 of my needs are/will be covered - it was just a speculative enquiry really.Urs wrote:However, if I knew what you would love to modulate, maybe there's a chance to come up with something?

Well when I read it initially I thought 'cross modualted filter' - is that what it stands for?Urs wrote:It's always only been a myth that XMF stands for Xtreme MothaFuckabeej wrote:I like it's original name better..
Cool sample BTW

Well, that's an extremely rare case... you can use the ModMatrix for that...funkadil wrote:Would be nice if the resonance was also modulated.
For audio rate modulartion... d'oh... it could become expensive... will try it...
