No. Since Sonic Reality does products with IK we've all talked about holding back announcements of products that aren't going to be released until at least within 3-4 months of the show. So, I am happy to say that this year both SR and IK product announcements will be of things that will be shipping in Q1 (and some in Q2 at the latest but I think all in Q1).

Believe me, there are some cool things in the works that I personally would LOVE to see announced because at NAMM it is just a lot of fun to divulge what's coming... but, you know, it's comments like the one you just made that make it not worth mentioning until it is closer to being ready. It's better when a company can do that anyway but also sometimes you just don't know and of course hindsight is 20/20. I never would have agreed to announced Studiophonik had I known what it would take to do it how we really imagined. But you can't go back, only forward. I am proud of the restraint this year. That said... oh it's still gonna be GOOOOOOOOOOOOD! ;) Believe me I wish I could tell you. It's gonna be a conversation piece for sure.

But the initial release dates have always been within 3-4 months of when they are first announced. That's never been the problem. The problem has been that the release dates keep getting pushed back to where the products are coming out a full year or more later than they were originally scheduled. For example, AmpliTube2 was originally slated for Spring 2005. Had IK followed the original schedule, then the announcement at Winter NAMM 2005 would have been quite appropriate. But as it stands, I just don't trust IK products to actually come out anytime near when they say they will. They have a record that makes even Microsoft look prompt.

Jazzguitar, that's some freaking fine playing there! Excellent phrasing and note choices, tasty bends and vibratos. Nothing heard all too often these days.
And even if I like your tones as well, your playing (I listened to some of your other things as well) just shows that a great player will sound fine through any reasonable equipment.
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.

Ok, well the products come out when they're ready. So if a company is off on predicting (or too optimistic) and this is something I've seen from many companies over the years including my own then there isn't anything they can do about it after the fact. But, making a conscious effort to pick and choose the things you are more certain when they will be available is what I am talking about. Even if there are trade offs there too. Anyway, I am only telling you from this side how it is thought about in case anyone wanted to know. If someone were to ask me if it will be 8 months or a year later from these announcements I can at least say that I don't think it will be based on these considerations. Should be Q1/Q2 stuff only for NAMM announcements at least from SR and IK. But you never know. I am not asking anyone to trust anything. Just giving an idea of what to expect from my POV.

I don't have much else to say about it than that.

Ahhhh yes the pictures. I did ask permission to post it but that was a few weeks ago so let me just ask again to be sure. I don't want to get yelled at! Haha. But, a Stomp IO just arrived the other day, the new one. MAN!!!!!! Does it look SWEEEEEEEET! Seriously. RUGGED as hell. I want to keep it. I am going to try to have one in my booth (Sonic Reality booth has some jams going on this year) and if I am lucky I can keep it afterward. It's a SERIOUS piece of hardware. I think the best way to look at it is the foot controller equivalent to a Digi002. A more high end interface controller for the guitarist. Such a thing doesn't exist! Not until this. I think any AT2 user would be crazy not to get it honestly. It's just too cool. Preset management, 6 switch or expression pedals... even keyboard players should get it just for the midi foot control aspects of it. You can even turn it into something like a Moog Taurus pedal controller I think. It's pretty powerful!

By the way, I've been asked to head up a press conference at the IK booth (I actually co-hosted the original one when the Stomp IO and Stealth was announced). The PR is not for a product I was directly involved in (well one of the products at the press conference is) but it'll be so cool that I think it warrants a 400 page thread all its own! Haha. No I am just kidding. But it IS something I think a lot of you will like. I know I like it a LOT and pretty soon I will tell you why! The only thing I CAN say is MAN the thing would otherwise be EXPENSIIIIIIVEEEEEE in hardware. ;) (oh that's a hint, but vague of course. I like to tease a little on the forum just for fun. :hihi: )
Great!

Now hand away these picctures and stay AWAY from this monitor!

So the new stomp IO will act as a dedicated MIDI floorboard as well? That's pretty tempting because all the competition have really expensive ones which only send midi signals and do nothing else..

Looking forwards to seeing it :)

Does anyone know if stomp boxs like the wah-wah can be controlled with a generic expression pedal and not the stomp i/o? I have a ev-5 expression pedal through a roland gi-20 that I would like to use to do the wah-wah in real time automation.

Yes!! The stompIO should be awesome for that purpose alone!

I personally want it for the (presumably) low latency ASIO drivers, and the high quality AD-DA convertors.

I was going to buy a high quality sound card and a pre-amp, but with this puppy coming out soon, I will hold on just a little bit more :)

Do you mean in AT2? if so, than I am afraid that the answer will be no...for now at least. AT2 (at least the standalone version) does not support midi learning or control abilities.

I think that this is an oversight from the behalf of IKMM. When I first downloaded the demo, the first question that came to mind was how do I control those stomps via my FCB1010.

It turns out that I couldnt.

I am pretty sure that if we voice enough of our opinions in this thread than IKMM might just give us this functionality in a future upgrade :)

To the AT2 users, how are you guys controlling these stomps and effects? through host automation?

Post

I am using AT2 as a vst plugin thru sonar 6, not standalone. Does it support midi learning or control as a plugin? If not, does anyone know of a good wah-wah plugin that I can put infront of amplitube that can be controlled via expression pedal?

Actually, StompIO will come with a new Wah Wah in it that is perhaps the best wah wah I have ever heard in software. I am not kidding. It's amazing! (based on one of my own Wah Wahs that I collected actually). So, if you are an AT2 user then getting Stomp IO will solve all of your controller needs for wah wah and everything else.

However, AT2 Live can do the wah wah with basic midi control and there may even be an update down the line for the AT2 full plug-in/stand alone version as well. But, first the main concentration is on the very special programming that allows it to work full on with Stomp IO integration, which is as you can imagine immense... every parameter of AT2 from editing to performacne and more is controllable from this foot control surface.

As promised here is a picture:

Wooooaaa!!!!!

That is sone sweeeeet lookin' mamma!! Now THAT looks like a professional piece of equipment!!! Me want RFN!

Will we be getting more technical details at NAMM concerning the StompIO? (AD DA convertors, latencies,etc...)

Will they be announcing a new release of AT2 at the show? :)

'Sokay. I like nice rugged buttons like that over pads.

The pic there is from the flyer and I believe it has some more specs. They're good! The A to D are on par with something like a Digi HD system actually. High end stuff. Latency is as low as it can be, the driver is done at the kernal (? did I spell that right?) level. Also, the circuitry of the input is "console grade" which is something that is often skimped on in the pre-amp/DIs of interfaces and this alone makes a big audible improvement over a lot of audio interfaces that are under a grand. It was A/B'd with a bunch of mid-priced interfaces and it had a lot more balls for guitar and bass direct inputs.

It's a class product. Took long enough to get it that way of course! But, that's what it takes if you are into craftsmanship which IK definitely is. It's not some quick slap it together cheap interface (there's enough of those out there). Also, it's handmade in Italy too... a place where there are some nice boutique amps made (not to mention Ferrari, Mazerati etc. that are right down the street from the IK office). You could almost call Stomp IO a boutique interface/controller. It's the only interface/controller for guitar that is made to be like a high end control surface. ProTools has things like ProControl for mixing. Guitarists now have this for thorough (and radical) control of their guitar effects. From accessing a zillion presets (oh, smooth preset switching by the way) to controlling various rates, depths and drives of the pedals with the 6 expression switches it is pretty DELUXE! (reminds me of those custom Bradshaw rigs that people like David Gilmour would have made for him... I bet you those cost a fortune!)

As for announcements at the show... you know I can't say anything. But there is going to be a press conference on Thursday about something. Some emulation of gear is involved. But, WHAT, well... you will know soon enough!
