If you can hint that eSoundz will be selling T3 (upgrades esp.) please do so....I'm gettin' it but I sure would like to support eSoundz when I do
This coming NAMM is going to be SICK!

I'm guessing that the Tracktion 3 thing is two-fold...first the "IK/SR Bundle" and secondly, that eSoundz will be selling it.

Squids - I was just actually playing the footage for Infinite Drums, Studio Profiles and RAW which was from some time ago I guess.
God you guys do some awesome things! I think RAW is more the product for me of the three, but you just cover so many price points and give so many options to musos.
It's definitely a plus knowing about Sonic Reality.
Sorry - bit OT but I didn't want to create a brand new topic for this.
Regards
Caleb

That or Ocean Way Drums... unless you think getting Allen Sides to mix drums for your album at one of the best studios in the world is a common thing to come across!telebunke wrote:I believe he refers to the J.Hendrix edition, "things you wouldn't otherwise be able to get".zvenx wrote:ok what did I miss, which of the products were you referering to here?Squids wrote:I am looking at something right now that is just mind blowingly cool you won't believe it when you see it. I know some people may not "get it" and perhaps even get spoiled by what seems to be the ease of product offerings just happening without knowing HOW those things came to be. But, I have to tell you, the likelihood of a studio like Ocean Way that is booked solid with acts like Radiohead, Beck, Green Day, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton and engineer/produders like Steven Miller (co-producer of Ocean Way Drums) who can't even make it to the NAMM show because he's only busy recording Dave Matthews Band is slim to none! It takes a major investment of time and money to create a sample collection of this caliber and all for a music instrument industry that is much much smaller than the MUSIC industry that they are at the top of. One might ask "Why would they even bother to do it?". So, I will tell you some of the reasons why Sonic Reality was LUCKY to be able to have this to offer to you guys.
I've been good friends with Steven Miller for a while. He's a brilliant engineer and producer who has done a ton of records going back to jazz records and Windham Hill (which he was the president of) to recent records like Switchfoot and the one I just mentioned. Allen Sides owns Ocean Way Studios and Ocean Way Record One where so many classic albums were recorded it's mind boggling but if you want to see what the studio is all about go here: http://www.oceanwayrecording.com It's impressive. Allen has also mixed close to 500 records and all KINDS of things. You know that 20th Century Fox theme at the beginning of Star Wars, the extended one? Allen recorded that at Ocean Way for example. I found that out yesterday when he played it on the big speaker monitors. Incredible!
So, what got these guys to do it is really their frustration with not being able to find samples that were on a level of what they would be looking for. Plus, there were things that could be done in terms of recording techniques to capture the best quality sound that you couldn't do in regular recording sessions with drummers playing because of ergonomics of the set up so they wanted to do that for themselves (just like Miroslav recorded an orchestra for themselves... and your buddy Squids recorded all of his vintage keyboards mainly first for himself... seems to be the best thing for you guys, when there was self-interest and love for the material personally by the creator as opposed to just doing it for the business aspect).
Allen has written books on microphones for Mix magazine and loves to pioneer audio-related things so with the mere INTEREST these two had in doing a sample library when I caught wind of that I flew out to Los Angeles and told them "If you guys do this we will go NUTS programming it and will do our best to convey what it REALLY is that our customers would be getting. Who knows what can happen?".
It's kind of a boutique item. One way to describe it is that it is like Vienna Symphony Library but for drums. A top of the line approach in every way. Each drum kit has a large amount of timbral and dynamic variations and the clarity of the recorded sound is like nothing I've ever heard. The miking techniques were so daring that there's no way I would have EVER tried them (don't try this at home kind of thing, unless you're Allen Sides and know psychoacoustics so well that you can pull it off... that or you've made a ton of records and with that experience know a few tricks that have worked... think about how useful THAT knowledge is). Plus, with so many albums being made over the years Allen knew where to go to get what sound so that EVERY drum in this collection is absolutely stellar and has a musical purpose. Again, a luxury that only someone like Allen and a studio like Ocean Way could bring to a project like this... and in our small little industry that is not so easy to get!!!!!
Now that you have some background behind this project hopefully you can appreciate what an amazing FIND this has been for Sonic Reality. We're always looking to bring you guys something you would not otherwise have access to. Even with my connections I can't even get into Studio B to record my music nor can I get engineer/producers of this caliber to work on it without a major record deal which I don't have, do you? Does your label approve $5,000 a day to record your album? Will they let you have a month block out just to record all the drums you ever wanted? See what I mean?
I had major producers coming up to me yesterday at the booth simply saying "When can I get this?". They know what it is and many want to practically high five me for convincing these guys to offer this to the public. It's the kind of thing that sometimes exists behind the scenes and probably would have only been that way if I didn't pitch the idea of bringing the sound of Ocean Way to the mass market (even if today it isn't really that MASS... but we're working on that).
It's an esoteric appreciation for the fine differences between studios, engineers, equipment, rooms... but these are the things that make Dr. Dre book an Ocean Way room SOLID to do all of his productions (Eminem, 50 Cent etc.), Jack Joselph Puig to have his room at Ocean Way with a rare Focusrite Forte console and having recorded bands like Jellyfish, Black Crowes, Goo Goo Dolls and a long list of others. It's enough for all of those big acts that I've mentioned to book the studio solid at some of the highest rates in town. Why do they do it? Because they want the best and can afford it. I think there's a lot of us that want the best (myself included) but don't have major record deals with budgets to record at a studio with Ocean Way and engineers like these so... that is why we're so proud to offer this! I'm psyched we pulled this one off. It wasn't easy just like buying Miroslav out and bringing the price down so drastically (which he would have NEVER done if he was still involved, trust me). You know we have a $249. version that is pretty much the same thing as what he sold for $4,000 now right? Miroslav Classik Edition. It was announced at the show. Again, just so you know, it seems like an easy thing on the outside perhaps but to be able to do this on the back end takes quite a bit of clever Squidspeak and deal making in order to give you guys what I think you REALLY want. I work off of what I think our customers would want which is usually the same sort of thing I'd want as a customer.
Whew, that was a Squidsfull! I know there was a lot of name dropping and some people view that as marketing hype. No question I am a hype machine as usual but the relevance here is even more than usual. The information about who these guys work with and who records at the studio is part of the fun of the whole product and I can't take it for granted that all people really know what goes on in studios at this level. I've worked at Ocean Way as a musician with T Bone Burnette, Sam Phillips, Black Crowes and others. I've SEEN some of these things (like the mixing of Jellyfish Spilt Milk) in action and have thought for YEARS if there was a way to capture this to use in my music (let alone anyone else's) it would be amazing. I'm very proud to have reached a point to offer a taste of that... and this very well could be just the beginning!
You can also look forward to a sample library with Alan Parsons and I revisiting Dark Side of the Moon instruments, effects and classic APP albums (in fact, that's a secret project, npi, but go ahead and let me know if there is any sound on any Alan Parsons Project album and I will see if we can extract it from the masters for his library which I just sneaked you a peak on).
This may be one of the biggest mega posts I've done in a while. But there's a lot to this new plateau of sampling we're going for here. It's worth taking the time (even during NAMM, which I have to hop in the shower and head over to right now) to convey... especially to my friends on KVR who have been following us since 2001 here on KVR and I've been able to share some exciting things with directly. Getting interesting!!!

Squids,
That was a Squidsful even for you! Hype? I know some may disagree with me but I don't think you should call it hype. Why? Because everything you've ever "hyped" has lived up to expectations in my opinion.
It's all very, very cool
I'll get more excited about it when I come down from my Jimi Hendrix AT2 cloud
and when I find out whether I can afford Ocean Way Drums
I'm a guitarist first after all

Whew! I think your biggest accomplishment is not leaking any of this before release day.Squids wrote: You can also look forward to a sample library with Alan Parsons and I revisiting Dark Side of the Moon instruments, effects and classic APP albums (in fact, that's a secret project, npi, but go ahead and let me know if there is any sound on any Alan Parsons Project album and I will see if we can extract it from the masters for his library which I just sneaked you a peak on).

Great work all around (again).
Regarding Parsons' DSOTM sounds, I think the real signature sound on that album is the choir fed through the Leslie effect. One of his most famous innovations.
But hey, they're all good. Floyd, APP, etc. Guy's got the Midas touch (except his stuff turns to Platinum, not Gold).
Cheers

Ocean Way drums has me excited like I haven't been in years. Haven't seen it or heard it but I already know that it is being moved to the top of my must have list for 07. It will be excellent, Squids/SR have never ever let me down yet.

I guess I had my hopes on some revolutionary vsti or something of that nature.
Haven't heard the Ocean Drums but they are already so many excellent drum libraries that aren't recorded in such a famous place by such a famous person but kicks butt. I therefore personality would not consider that "mind blowing" by any stretch of my imagination, but that is just me. Especially when I consider the drummer being the biggest reason for a great drumtrack. Different strokes for different folks.
And although I recognise the importance of JH in the history of the evolution of electric guitar, I can't say I was a fan of his sound, which probably was revolutionary in the 60's but not to me in 2007.....
once again just my 2 cents.
