Synths crashing Receptor

There are some synths, that, upon load after Unsupported install, cause the Receptor to blank to the splash screen and restart with the little X cursor.
Can anyone tell me what causes this, other than "incompatible VST"? What is "happening" on the Receptor when it does that?

Not a knowledgable answer, but it appears that this is the Os's way of handling error conditions. Generally does not harm anything, just follow the processes under 'If an unsupported install fails...' opr remove the plug and it's FAILED version.

Yeah. Thats kinda what I was assuming. Im trying to take it a step further. When the system crashes like that, there is no report written to the System Log so there is not a way to further explore.
AFAIK...

Sometimes a synth makes the system crash. Once way around this, which sometimes work, is to open a synth known to work, then open the one that made the system crash again. Not guaranteed to work, but more often that not, this trick has enabled me to open something which would crash the system is opened first.

I've had a couple problems with EVE crashing the system. Has anyone else?

I'm sure this is old news but both Akoustic Piano and Kontakt would not run and crashed the system until I added another stick of 1GB memory. Then everything seems to run fine. I get a glitch here and there that I will research next.

I am searching to solve the problem with Muse Support.
Did you solved the problem?

Hi,
I just bought my Receptor 5 day ago (Rev. C, 2Gb Ram) and I noticed that the 4front rhode plugin crashes my receptor too.
In fact, the receptor crashes or randomly restarts sometimes when I load patches...
I suspect a hardware default... (RAM... ?)
Any suggestion welcome...

We've found a funny bug where Forefront Rhodes crashes the first time it is instantiated, and then it works from that point onwards. We're not sure why, though...
As for random crashes and restarts, this is not normal in Receptor. Did you buy the RAM from Muse, or was it added by your dealer? We have seen a very high incidence of bad and poor quality RAM causing stability problems.... also, you might want to consider turn Z-load off if you are doing lots of loading of different plug-ins, as Z-load will attempt to cache every plug-in and preset you load until you run out of RAM and force a restart...
Please send a mail to techsupport if these problems continue with Zload turned off... you might want to contact your dealer if they added the RAM for you as I suspect that is the problem.

Thanks for the response!
The Ram was installed by the reseller technician (Kingston RAM... I don't know about the specs). Maybe I should just return the machine and ask for a check...

With 95% certainty that is why it is crashing. The RAM is probably sub-spec (we always recommend to use the best quality RAM available!) or improprely installed or the wrong type...

Hi again,
After a few days of test, here are my comments about plugins that make the Receptor crash:
- 4 Front Rhodes plugin sometimes refuses to load or freezes the machine... No help from Muse yet... I just won't use it anymore
- Novation A-station and Bass Station have the same behavious as the 4 front rhodes... A long time ago someone wrote in this forum that he installed those plugins and could run them successfully... I'm still trying to find him and contact him... For the moment, I don't use them anymore either.
- EVE makes my Receptor crash too. It loads normally, but after playing with it for a few minutes, it crashes with a loud noise for 1 second and then the Receptor is frozen. Even the "triple click" restart method doesn't work. I have to make an emergency shutdown and start agin. I'll try to post a ticket at Muse, but I don't think I'll use it again... not reliable enough.
I have installed the Devine Machine Minion plugin successfully. This is a nice crazy filter that works very well in the Receptor... at least so far...
I have made a few Multis with other plugins, programmed a few Snapshots and Singles, and everything seems to work fine, as long as I don't use any of the above-mentioned plugins.
I have a gig in six weeks and I am planning to use the Receptor as my main sound source, with a Nova keyboard as masterkeyboard. There is still a lot of job to do, since I have to rebuild all my patches to get my sounds again. I want to use the analog outs and the adat outs and plug them into my 828MKII (so I can use my computer too...) and reroute the sound source to the separate 828 outs... I hope it will be ok...
Any suggestion welcome...

Have you tried the trick I mentioned above, loading a VST known to work first, then loading the suspect VST in the same channel ?
