well I'm not Urs,
but he did one groupbuy a few years ago,
and IIRC he said he wont do anymore groupbuys.
sorry for you but maybe you can find a cheaper secondhand one.

don't think Urs does group buys... i'm pretty sure it's him that takes the point of view that it devalues the product, makes people wait and wait before buying, and is unfair to the people who paid full price... i more or less agree, although i like group buys when i get a cheaper price

yeah i should have said, watch for zebra second hand... there's a fair number of people who try it and find it's too complex for what they want to do (as modular synths tend to be quite fiddly - you can't have flexibility and freedom and still be simple can you?) and sell them between $125-150... that's how i got mine...

You know, I never paid attention to any of these items because for some reason I was thinking they were Mac only. Silly me.
Now I want them... ALL.
Yeah, these cost a bit if you were to get the entire line, but it seems that they are worth it. And I would rather pay a little more for something top notch rather than have a dozen cheapie 'crap' things cluttering the hd.
But definitely yes... count this as a vote for a g.b.
I'm glad you started this thread because if not a g.b. I was going to ask whether there is a bundle available. An effect bundle or better yet an everything bundle would be cool!

its worth the $199 IMO just save up for it or sell some vst' it can replace to raise the extra needed cash

Regarding devaluation, amen to that. I can certainly see the reasoning (and examples around here) behind that.
As for being unfair to original purchasers. I can see that too, but then I've also seen plenty of things become a LOT cheaper over time than what I originally paid for them. That happens sometimes.
Well, I think asking whether there might be bundle pricing offered is still a fair question. Many companies do bundles.

I'm always careful about buying used soft. Sometimes the eula does not allow it and the seller does not realize it. What happens then?
I'm assuming then, the u-He does allow it?

Note: the license states that you can't sell Zebra until after 9 months from purchasing.
IMO, Zebra 2 is very affordable for what it is, and Urs is generous with upgrades.

It's a very fair price, IMO, and moreover, Urs deserves the dough for all his hard work!

The perceived value of any VSTi to an individual depends on how useful it would be and whether it provides something different from the other VSTi he or she may have. My perception of Zebra 2.1 is that it is now worth having a look at (with the new filter). As far as I can tell in the 10 mins. or whatever demo time, to get any real dimension to the VA sound with this synth requires that two parallel two osc. + 1 filter etc. instances be implemented and run panned apart. This brings about the complication of trying to assign the same controller to each instance of the same parameter - the workability of this is hard to assess in the demo period. Hence my positon is that I would be willing to take a chance and invest some time with this if the price was in line with my perceived value.
However, I do respect that a lot of time and effort has gone into producing this synth, and that other users find uses for the more complex and thinner sounds it produces when configured in other ways. $199 is fair in that respect. However, I would imagine that there are many potential users out there that would not be certain enough of the usefulness of any synth to them to pay the full asking price, but could be tempted by a reduction brought about by a group buy.

Does he still offer the dinosaur crossgrade?
I think the lesson I've learned with Urs' stuff is to purchase as soon as available and reap the benefits.
He often has very generous introductory offers (see MFM).
By buying early I got great deals on Filterscape, Zebra2, and MRM.

If that's a config you use a lot, set yourself up a template with that architecture preconfigured, and any controller routings you want. It's quicker/easier if you have some starting points without having to constantly bolt in core components that you will use a lot.cleverr1 wrote:to get any real dimension to the VA sound with this synth requires that two parallel two osc. + 1 filter etc. instances be implemented and run panned apart. Also, don't forget the XY pads can modulate multiple destinations and ranges as well...

Would it meet your value threshold at $149?
If so, download the dinosaur crossgrade, follow the instructions and save $50.

As many people have stated, Urs is a top notch fellow releasing top notch software. I have bought all of his stuff right out of the gate and have been treated very well ... like all early adopters. Can you beat a $20 upgrade from Z1/1.5 to Z2? I think not!
All the best,
Eric
