It's a much cleaner design; much easier to look at. But if you're going to have single-line news items, I'd recommend you make them smaller and the plugin promos bigger or something. Text that's spread out like that is a little bit too difficult to focus on and separate. IMO you need to have each news item stand out on its own as a separate thing.
