I'm pretty sure I recall this discussion, but search isn't available, so:
I'm realizing that the piece I'm working needs a tempo shift. IIRC, changes in tempo aren't yet supported in LUNA, is that right? If they are, I don't see how to insert one. So now I'm wondering if I need to export my MIDI data and move over to Tracktion.
What's the scoop, Jo? Is this some likely to be a near-term new feature, or is it on a more distant horizon? Or is there another approach that I'm overlooking?

Sorry Dave but i can't give a clear timing on the "Tempo Changes" feature yet.
Assume that this feature is for LUNA 1.x, thus after LUNA 1.0.

Hi Jo,
Tempo change is definitely something that Luna should have ... probably a bit more important that additional rack functionality..which totally rocks right now. You could probably set it up as a midi property. Besides tempo, it would be also nice to mix up measure timing - 3/4 to 4/4, 5/4, etc.

Thanks, PL, I hadn't remembered that list.
As a musician who primarily does rock rather than various forms of electronica, I'm not sure I consider tempo changes less important than freezing (maybe time signature changes are less important) -- I've got a very simple piece going with only four tracks so far, but it clearly needs a tempo change at this point so I'm stuck (I realize that's just one data point).
Given the ready availability of a large number of powerful, high-quality, free VSTs and VSTis, I'm not sure I consider it less important than an integrated synth/effects (but I never played with the Muzynth and from what I've read about that, I think those who have probably would disagree with me
).
I would put tempo and time signature changes behind automation envelopes (I think I know but I'm not 100% sure what's meant by "breakpoint automation envelopes") and flexible audio loops (I'm also an ACID user and love what that program can do with loops; OTOH, it's also got excellent tempo handling features).
Ultimately, Jo will have to make those calls for himself, but it's nice to have input.

I tend to agree with DaveL. There are already tons of great Synths and Effects to be had for free. Tempo change is one of the basic tools (though sadly neglected in today's pop music) in music composition.
I have this old midi composer program from the 80's that has this as a feature, and it's useful.
You can probably get away w/o time signature changes and still use Luna, but there's no way to slow down or speed things up in the Midi channels w/o resorting to oddball note lengths.

Using VST synths is not the same as having an integrated synth/sampler.
It's a big difference in user experience and in technical possibilities!
Anyway, i understand that Tempo Changes is a wanted feature, and so i'll take this into account.

A good quality built in sampler is very usefull, and I would prefer that over a vsti in some instances.
For instance look at the built in sampler in EnergyXT.
It has very good specs, and a nice built in slicer.
Also built in instruments tend to be easier on the cpu.
