Would you consider buying a complete version of this?

No. Old crap. Who needs it?

No. Got the original. Much better 8)

Maybe, but I don't see the sense in emulating old technology, with so many better VSTis around

ChamomileShark wrote:Thanks arakula, you probably didn't see my edit..I found that the sound programdoesn't save in Cubase SX3, when the project comes back up it reverts to the first sound in the bank. I usually create my own presets and just hit store preset, that doesn't seem to work in Cubase..but I may not be using it correctly, it just acts differently to the other vsts i have.
Hehehe... gotcha 8-)

Please keep in mind that this thing emulates a real synthesizer.
That means, it acts exactly like the original.

To store programs, you have to press the "DATAT" button (or move the cursor to the DTF: field on the PROGRAM panel with the <- and -> buttons) and enter "9" there. Then, press the PROGRAM button and enter a 2-digit program number where you want to store the program to. This tells the Wave to keep the current program at the given position.

As soon as you did that, it will be part of any .fxb file (or Cubase project) from now on. The data stored in the .fxb file contain a complete machine description - SRAM, EPROM, knob positions, ... the complete synthesizer.

As soon as you load a bank into the 2.2V6, it sets up the virtual machine - and then boots up with the new settings.

Yes, it really boots up... do you know what a PPG Wave does when it boots? It does tons of internal checks and initializations, and then it starts with PROG: 1. Always. It doesn't remember the current program. You have to send it as a MIDI program change (but please wait at least 2 seconds after loading - it currently doesn't like it very much if the MIDI UART receives data before it has been initialized...) or enter it manually.

ok thanks, I'll try that when I'm a bit more awake. The other aspect where this is not a true emulation is if I drop it on my foot it doesn't hurt!

That's the factory sound set; you get the same volume differences on the real thing.
Heh heh... kudos on reproducing this thing to even the "ugly" details of the original :-)

I just uploaded a new version.

Changes:
- switched to VST SDK 2.4 rev2
- loads of optimizations to the Editor window
- changed default output volume to a higher value so that it's louder

The last point is giving me a bit of a headache, since it also means that the output can easily go over 0dB, but the single voices still shouldn't - and you can always use the Master Volume knob on the front panel.

Hi I've d/l this version unfortunately although it's appear in Cubase SX3's list of VSTs and as active, loads into the VST rack and I can play it's keyboard, it doesn't show up under the midi out so I can't play it from my midi keyboard. Unfortunately I've deleted the old version which showed up fine. Help!

Edit. My bad filing is a wonderful thing, I've just found the zip file of the older version. If the sound is the same as the newest one it's less of a problem.

Definately interested in the full blown version.

I have the same problem here in Cubase SL 1.06. :(

ok, I'll e-mail Hermann directly and let him know. I'll suggest he replies here or I'll get his agreement to post his reply here.

I'm pretty sure that I found the problem; it's a result from my switch from VST SDK 2.3 to 2.4.

Tech details (ignore if you're only interested in working with it):

In VST SDK 2.3 and before, you had to call wantEvents() in your effect's resume() method. In 2.4, this method is deprecated... but to make the plugin work with older hosts that don't really know anything about the 2.4 changes, it's still necessary to issue the call. Steinberg has provided an implementation in AudioEffectX::resume(), but I didn't call that from my resume() method. Didn't catch that as my very own test host has no problems with it 8-)... I will post an updated version tonight.

Yep. But, as I have to admit, GUI polishing isn't my top priority with this thing. It has to WORK first.
Meet your new GUI polisher. :D

I've done a couple of VST GUIs as mock-ups / jokes and some promo graphics for a commercial plug-in but never worked on a real, working project which is something I'd love to do. Love these emulation projects but not being a programmer this is as close as I'm going to get to involved with one. Let me know if you're interested!

Haven't tried WaveSim yet but will do later; having spent the last few years reverse-engineering early Depeche Mode tracks for fun (yes, I am that sad) I can't wait to have a go with it.

Great to hear this.

Hermann I'll keep an eye out on this thread for your updated version.

Modeller - can I have a custom gold spandex version? Seriously I'm ok with the basic gui that is a copy of the 2.2. It just needs to be a little clearer.

keep up the good work! mark

Ok, I've played with this some more in the past week, and I really like it. If the GUI was a little more..."Polished," and a little larger, I'd definitely pay for it.

It doesn't make a sound on Loic Audio 5... any special file required?
It works fine on chainer.

No idea about Logic Audio 5. I don't have it, so I can't test it.
Anyway, in case it's this VST SDK 2.4 again, I've uploaded a VST SDK 2.3 version at
http://www.hermannseib.com/programs/vstwsimd23.zip
You might want to try this one with Logic and tell me whether it works.
