I like the idea of 2 more mseg's (which there are room for on the mseg page without adding to the complexity) in the context of adding a way to more easily edit mseg's in steps, then the mseg's can act as a step sequencer. You can do this now, but it is currently tedious to edit in steps.

The biggest engine limitation I've found for me is only four envelopes. Let's say I'm doing dynamic FM with four operators, and each operator has it's own envelope. Now I want to add a regular oscillator to add to my layer, but I haven't got any envelopes left. Ok, I can use an MSEG, but you have limited velocity controls etc.

Apart from that, the engine is fine, just need a few workflow details like copy/paste etcm and we're golden... ;)

A couple more envelopes would indeed be handy. A hold parameter would be cool too (AHDSR). I really like hold for basses. I use the mseg as an envelope for basses sometimes because I can more precisely shape the envelope to hold before a shorter decay.

Yea, that it is a very good idea. Unfortunately I have not experimented enough with msegs yet, but I think I got the picture after I have listened to some presets and from what you told me. The world of step sequencers is great fun.

There are altso room for a 32 step arpeggiator, or step sequencer which it is more closer to. I would love to have a some rulers defining a step range eg. 8 8 8 8, or 16 16, for playback, and a "pop up box" where the user can define how many times the step range can be played (eg. 1-100, or just looped -F ->,B ->, FB < ->,BF >-< ). So lets say you play the first 16 steps 4 times, then the arpeggiator jump to the next ruler and play the next 16 steps which contains another sequence. Then imagine what happens if you can choose freely which of the 4 oscillators you can trig in the sequence :)

Best regards

The Tassman sequencers are the best I know of for this sort of stuff. You can create patterns and string the patterns into songs

Do you have a link? :help:

I downloaded the trial version of Era (standalone step sequencer), but it was kinda tricky to use it on several tracks..

Tassman is a modular synth from AAS. In otherwords, you cannot use its sequencers with other synths. It does have dozens of its own synths and the sound quality is outstanding. You can check it out here:

When we are talking of hold, I miss the key hold function in the arpeggiator section, step sequencer :)

That list of mine was a bit contrary, I admit! But I'm dead serious: I sincerely hope Urs ignores 90% of the "more this more that" wishes, and refines the current feature-set instead. Stuff like copy/paste/save, non-synced LFOs, improved browser, Zscript documentation, complete manual, gui tweaks, knob scaling tweaks... then Zebra2 will not only be the brilliant product it is, but will also have the "professional" touch it lacks (a bit) at the moment.

"and refines the current feature-set instead"

not instead, just first!

here's an audio sample of a muted guitar preset I made today (when I should have been finishing up a website job) - love them comb modules!

That sounds awesome - Share the .h2p patch or STFU!

:P :hihi:

Glad you like it!

This preset will be included in a modest (nothing like 900!) bank of presets I will be releasing in the next few weeks (as work schedule allows). I want to have a nice collection of approx 40 presets mostly featuring the comb modules.

I agree. Progression -> Refinement -> Progression -> Refinement -> is a fruitful cycle.
And I think that we are now at a Refinement phase, mostly GUI/usabilitywise.

The step sequencer in Tassman was very nice, I tried the demo. I like the Zebra sound and gui better. Zebra is faster to edit, especially if I want to build a patch from scratch. I will try to post some Zebra sounds when they are finished. If you know some other VST's add's, subtr's, VA's to recommend which can complement Zebra and Tassman synth sounds, please forward some info..

Cheers
