thanks for the file, replicator...microtonalists everywhere are weeping in joy (and fractional steps).

Ok, thank youtamahome wrote:The key C4 will be the same, but the next octave up will be at G7, and the previous octave will start at F0. (Unless someone changed the default key where the root note is.)

Thanks, I am interested in learning more about microtonal music. If you have some links, please forward them to memayan wrote:thanks for the file, replicator...microtonalists everywhere are weeping in joy (and fractional steps).

there's an avalanche of stuff on the web. One place to look is this
http://www.justintonation.net/
As I recall it's a nice portal to other sites. They celebrate "just intonation" but from there it's a hop skip and jump to alternative scales.

They sell a good book there called 'The Just Intonation Primer'. Also Kyle Gann has a really good intro: http://kylegann.com/tuning.html . I wish someone would make a plugin that would show the current frequency ratios of the notes you're playing if they were microtuned (like 4:5:6:7:9 for a 9th chord).mayan wrote:there's an avalanche of stuff on the web. I'm not sure I understand the question about turning 43 notes into 12 notes.
Btw, all of Robert Rich's solo stuff starting with Numena is in just intonation. Also Lithosphere with Ian Boddy ( http://robertrich.com ) He's working on a cool looking dvd. There's 2 really short clips on youtube.

Thank you very much for the links guys, it was some nice music there altso. I listened to the Mp3's made by mayan and robert rich. Ambient music is very pleasant to listen to.
Regarding 43/12, I have so many trolls in my head now so I better read more before I say anything
Thanks

Jon Catler built a just intonation electric guitar ( http://microtones.com/guitars.htm ). There's a full song here:

It sounded very different compared to what I have listened to in the past. Interesting.tamahome wrote:Jon Catler built a just intonation electric guitar ( http://microtones.com/guitars.htm ). There's a full song here:

Here's a couple Kyle Gann pieces I like. They're made with an old synth:

Btw, Wusik mag #10 has a microtuning article.

Click on 'free demo issue' to see part of it.

The kylegann song sounded a bit "sad" in my mind, close to diatonic minor scale maybe?
Best regards

Is there a collection of some common tun files for microtuning ready for use in Zebra? Last time I tried (which was long time ago) the ones I found did not work. thanks

I am sure Urs will post some common .tun files for Zebra soon. In the mean time you can try these:pdxindy wrote:Is there a collection of some common tun files for microtuning ready for use in Zebra? Last time I tried (which was long time ago) the ones I found did not work. thanks

Zebra is .tun ready, just one minor thing. The filter frequency range is "12tET-centric", slowriot mentioned it in an earlier post. The filter frequency sounded nice in my ears, so I dont know what happens when other ranges are used.
Cheers

The filters' KeyFollow use the very same value for their tuning that the oscillators use (as does the KeyFollow modulator)... thus, patches using self-oscillating filters (i.e. XMF stuff) should be microtuned just right...
However, any tuning/modulation in semitones is tuning/modulation in welltempered semitones. Anything else would involve a lot more maths, making microtunability a relatively cpu expensive feature...
Cheers,

Please do invest some extra time to the microtuning implementation in Zerbra! I think that microtuning support alone is a feature that makes zebra to stand out from the others.. I don't think it's a coincidence that logic version 8 started microtuning support on logic - surely a sign of interest from the producers?Urs wrote:?replicator wrote:The filter frequency range is "12tET-centric", slowriot mentioned it in an earlier post.

If it's CPU hungry, why not just make it optional (toggle on/off, default to off)?
Just imagine the modulation options if one has access to microtonal pitch input (FM, anyone).. or is this already possible somehow? =)

Replicater, thanks for the .tun files. I was trying to use some that i had from Wusikstation and Angelina but they did not work. Urs was talking about anamark .tun files and I sent him some and he was never heard from again... but these are fun to work with.
Give me faster computers, bigger Hard drives and more money.
