When the hardware box stands in a corner, collecting dust for weeks... then it's time to sell it. Never sell anything you use regularly hoping to eventually replace it in the future.

In another note, I used to own a 1080, then sold it for a 5050 and have never been so dissapointed with a synth. The new sounds were almost entirely crap, I ended up using only the old 1080 sounds in the end... Also much worse to program... even the editor was daunting to use.

I personally would keep the 1080 until a VSTi comes along that really beats it. Colossus, as mentioned, does just that when it comes to real instruments but the synthsounds are useless... That's where Hypersonic2 shines on the other hand... So a Colossus/Hypersonic2 combo might just be the way to go... even if it costs a fair bit of money.

bmanicEh? Are you REALLY sure it's based on JV-1080? I have a Roland XP-50 (basically JV-1080 with keyboard and sequencer) and it sound 10000 times better than ravity. Also, it's sound engine is wastly superior with complex modulation routing, basic filter/effects order routing etc. It's patches can be built with up to 4 voices (samples) per patch whereas ravity has 2 voices per patch.

Sorry, but this is wrong !
A patch in Ravity can have 8 voices/samples per patch and 4 different filters and by the way have 4 independent arpeggios.

EDIT: Never mind.. I was confused. Yes indeed it has 4 layers just like the JV-1080.

You would be right but then comes the fact that in softsynth world you can stack few reavitys (and the buggers are dead easy on the cpu so in a host like fruity where layering softsynths is simple it's a breeze) which makes it possible to stack infinitely. One instance of Ravity is not meant (at least not convinient) to be used as a multitimbral anyway so what he said holds.
