AFAIK, you need Sound Forge and Acid Pro to completely edit acidized wavs. SF will correctly acidize a loop, but you need Acid Pro to edit the "slice markers." And those markers need to be edited in order for the loop to be useful over a large tempo area.

Well Swarplug doesn't have velocity layers. I'm not sure if Abracatabla does either (though it does have a lot of different notes to choose from).

So why not go the single shot direction and then include MIDI loops?

A Bollywood-specific library would be SWEET! So lots of percussion, string section stuff for those legato lead lines, tons of traditional Indian instruments (Tanpura, Santoor, Sarangi, Sarod, Sitar, etc.) maybe some DJ beats, too. What'd also be cool is including some background section vocals with different syllables or something. The vocals department would be more difficult for obvious lyrical reasons, but choirs or background bols chants would be sweet!

And then MIDI loops for popular beats would be great.

Songs to check out: Chalak Chalak (Devdas), Jaage Jaage (Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai), Maar Daala (Devdas), Nikamma Kiya Is Dil Ne (Kyaa Dil Ne Kahaa), Tera Chehra, Boondon Se Baatein (Thakshak), Bairi Piya (Devdas), Saathiya, and so much more.

I guess the difficult thing about making a Bollywood library is that there's a lot of overlap with other libraries, so you're not only needing samples of traditional Indian instruments, but DJ/pop stuff.

There are indeed other sets, but as mentioned above, they lack the velocity layer shit so it's harder to give em good dynamics.
I also agree with the suggestion of using more instruments (percussion and other) than the regular tabla stuff.

I'd be interested more in multisamples than loops. Indian Percussion appeals a lot to me :)

If it were just a 'loop' product, $99 ought to buy (IMHO) about 4GB, a DVD's worth.

But, is there a need? I think the multisample route is better, and focusing on what pw and Debutante suggested. I can play Indian scales and rhythms, what I don't have are the correct sounds.

I'm glad to see the comments about the Swar products. Glad I didn't put my hand in my pocket now... :-o

hi,

yes .wav files have their limitations. will rex2 files not make it easy for you to play your own sounds built into these loops?

also, since u ask for need of such a product, are these loop CDs available that help you build a typical bollywood song?

awaiting ur feedback.

thx

WAVs may be limited in some respects, but they are a universal currency. You'll sell more with that format, I think.

In my mind, the big issue is how to squeeze enough material into a modest space. The hallmark of Bollywood, to my ears, is the relentless eclecticism. You'd have a hell of a job capturing the whole genre in a manageable space at good quality. You'd be better off thinking in terms of a series: Bollywood Percussion, Bollywood Orchestral, Bollywood Vocals, and then the various Indian instruments divided between strings and woodwind/brass.

And while I said earlier that 'samples trump loops', there is probably a need for loops in the vocals area.

If it's good, I'll buy it.

while I love most of Bollywood sound too (I hate the Bollywood name though),

I don't see "loops" being much a benefit, rather I'd sample shorties from the original tracks,

the beauty of that music IMHO is well beyond something that you can loop,

Yeah Taal soundtrack rules, <grin>

hi,

could you let me know what webstores / shops in your area do you buy these kind of products?

also, your take on the rex files which help one play different notes as well (within a loop).
