Hi, there,

Is FreEq Boy's function similar to Har-Bal?

Thank you,

FreEq Boy is a plug-in. Har-Bal is stand-alone. One of the functions of FreEq Boy is EQ capturing and merging. However, FreEq Boy has more functions. For example it also allows free hand EQ drawing and can accept an ASCII file with an EQ curve description (in various formats). So, for example, if you need a very specific mathematically defined EQ, you can describe it in a text file and load it into FreEq Boy.

FreEq Boy is able to capture the time averaged EQ curve of, let's say, a target track. This can be saved. Next FreEq Boy can capture the time averaged EQ curve of your own track. Finally, The captured EQ curves can be 'merged' such that a difference EQ curve is generated which is then used on your own track such that the time averaged EQ of your own track becomes equal to the EQ of the target track.

What does Har-Bal do? I can't easily figure this out from the link you gave. Yes, it seems to take a target EQ as an example of the desired EQ, but it doesn't look like an automatic operation (I may be wrong). The site also suggests that Har-Bal can generate an optimum EQ without the need of an example EQ - in this case it probably just has some EQ curves stored inside.

The demo of FreEq Boy contains full instructions so you can probably be the best judge.

Okay, thank you.

I bought Har-Bal though I haven't used it on my own things yet. I saw your description and I thought it sounded like a similar function, so before I spend a lot of time learning Har-Bal, and coming to like what I am hearing about your plugs more every day, I thought I'd just leave a quick question or two.

Thanks a million for the descriptive answer. I really appreciate it!
