Question about UniWire and signal flow in sequencer

Generally speaking, loading up a VSTi in your host will give you one of more audio channels in a mixer or equivalent.

In this way you can do something like this in your host:

midi track -> VSTi -> insert1 -> insert2 -> master output
                   \
                    -> send1 -> master output
OK - now my question is - if I insert UniWire where the VSTi is in my stupid little diagram and that links to a Receptor channel which has the original VSTi, does the signal flow look the same as the above with that small replacement?

In other words - if I JUST wanted to have some VSTi on Receptor utilising UniWire in my host does it work exactly the same way as with a VSTi - ability to place an insert on the output in the sequencer's mixer, ability to send some of the signal to a bus in the sequencer etc...?

I understand that you can't perform offline renders and freeze with a UniWire instance - at this point I'm just interested in the signal flow question above.

I'm still struggling to see how it all fits in and it's something that you don't want to jump into unless you're sure - and as virtually no Melbourne music stores seem to have the thing I can't go in and ask for a demo.

I use Sonar, and as far as MY setup is concerned, it works exactly like your picture. When you insert a VST track in Sonar, you of course get a MIDI track (output to the VST, in this case Uniwire) and an AUDIO track (input FROM the VST/Uniwire). Then on that AUDIO track, yes you can assign it to the MASTER, and/or have one of more SEND's to submixes/effect buses, and/or have VST effect(s) on that channel as inserts. I do this all the time.

I'll assume that it works like that in other sequencers too then. In EnergyXT you don't have an additional audio track created, just an audio channel visible in the mixer - so I assume it will do the same thing.

To answer one of your questions...I'm using Logic 7.3 (in OSX 10.4.3) with Uniwire and it shows up as a regular software instrument. I can bus stuff however I want, use host-based plug-ins (Waves plug-ins, etc.) just like I would with a regular host-based software instrument.

I'm looking to buy a new laptop to do my music on, but I'm pretty sure that if I find it's not coping with things, Receptor will become a very big consideration.

If there were any places that advertised prices on Receptor in Australia for the different versions it would be good too. Unfortunately, it's almost like it doesn't exist. I remember ringing Allans (fairly prominent Australian retailer) and at least they said they'd heard of it. But they also said they wouldn't bother having it in the store at all and would only order it in for someone. So you have no ability to demo it in any way before purchasing.
