Personally, I've never really liked what was commonly billed 'progrock'
It basically came out of 'folk rock' (which I never liked much -- being from lots of white middleclass Hippy 'dudes' with less soul than yer common potato slug whining with teen angst about not much) with it's first American purveyors Arthur Lee's 'Love' and 'The Grateful Dead' -- two bands whose roots go back to the hippies/folkies 'The Byrds' and 'Fevertree', respectively.
At that time, bands like Junior Walker and The Allstars, Allman Brothers, Joplin & Full Tilt Boogie, Procol Harum, Jimi Hendrix and the Mothers of Invention had all my attention (especially the Mothers)...

I've recently discovered ELP (I make it a habit to discover groups about 20-30 years after their artistic/commercial prime...
). Incredible to listen to and unbelievable to watch. I think they kind of represent what attracts me in prog rock in general: great, complex music that you really need to hear several times to have noticed all the details and a musicianship of such virtuosity that some tracks are entertaining to listen to even if they're musically not that captivating.
Of course, my view of the genre is limited and I don't like all the groups I know in that genre but I'm always impressed by the complexity of the arrangements and the level of musicianship.

Yeah -- Always loved ELP and Keith's spinning piano
But to me, they were more like 'Early Fusion' than 'progressive rock', though I suppose they're in the latter era of that genre's heyday.
'Brain Salad Surgery'

kara, isn't that Zelda track a remake of one of those ocarina melodies from "Zelda64 - Ocarina Of Time"?
It's nice to see some game-inspired tunes among the usual prog-rock and disco stuff

Posted my entry, hopefully it sounds enough like Kraftwerk to pass inspection.
I'd never actually listened to any of their stuff before until this month. I was never really inspired to, since I only ever heard their name as the punchline to a joke about overly-electronic or mechanistic-sounding music. Turns out I quite enjoyed the stuff I found, though. Sometimes it's nice to be forced to listen to something different, I guess.

I am a HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE Kraftwerk fan. I've seen them live twice.
They are definitely far from being a prog rock band (they are techno electronica) but hey, whatever it takes to get a Kraftwerk-ish submission is ok by me!
I highly recommend "The Mix". That's their "greatest hits" album and it is a great start if you want to get a feel of the band.
The album is cool because they remixed all their stuff so you get their hits in alternate versions.
BOING BOOM TSCHAK!!!!!!
