The drop down menu to select destination for the X/Y pads is kind of awkward when you have a ton of modules in a patch.

I was thinking, a learn-feature would be great for assigning these controls. Something like this:
  • Open the XY Assign tab
  • Right-click on an assignment button. (Left should still drop the standard menu, like now)
  • Button turns red to indicate "learning" status.
  • Click or "wiggle" the control you want to assign to.
Seems like this would be a much quicker way to accomplish the task.

Cheers,

Yep, interesting idea!

It's not gonna be easy to accomplish, but eventually there shall be easier & more intuitive ways to assign XYs!

(And copy/paste between XY assignments too - quite often I've assigned a bunch of parameters to XY3 instead of XY4, and have to go back and do them all again in XY4... - yes I'm a numpty... ;)

PS Grid module redraw text label inactive colours reminder thanx :D

Hey Urs - when you get round to improving x/y MIDI assignment, remember that hardware X/Y pads send two CCs at the same time. Part of a solution: Zebra could assume there will be more movement in the X-axis than the Y-axis :)

BTW: I already tried to assign my V-Synth pad to one of Zebra's... very much a hit and miss affair.

Yeah, I had a similar issue mapping my Wavestation's joystick to the XY controls using Logic's controller assignments.

IIRC, what was happening was that the X value was always being learnt first, so learning the Y value was often tricky. I found a workaround in Logic - I can't remember the full details, but it was something like I learnt them backwards as X values, and used Logic's controller assignments to change the parameters to the Y axis, then relearning the X's again, which worked.

I also had to invert the Y axis though, to match the joystick's controller transmission.

The trick is... set up another knob with the same cc as the X axis... learn that knob... now set up the knob for the Y axis... learn that as well...

Requires a midi controller with variable CCs though...

But nevermind, it's gonna be better soon, say somewhere around mid of the year.

I use Novation's touchpad on my MIDI controller and it works quite well with the X/Y grid. Granted using my index finger for realtime automation doesn't work well for very precise type of automation effects, but for major filtersweeps, resonance buildups and delay/reverb effects, it works extermely well. Hands down the greatest feature of Zebra2!
