Timechange
Straight to the goal and a very good prog feel, love those synths.
One of those songs where I regret the 2 min. limit
Disco Arbys
A typical 70's Disco-Funk mix. A real flashback to the 70's.
I enjoyed listening to it and I appreciate a lot the litle touch of humour in it.
Alaskan Highway
Mighty synths in there and very good drum lines. The guitar didn't realy feel blend in the mix to me.
Why are you calling me
This could realy be kraftwork !
Sunset Flight
I love the bass groove which drives the song, a shame you didn't make a couple of variations on this one.
In One Sixtieth
Great piano intro line, remembers me directly Meatloaf.
And I'm allways jalous when I hear guitars soloing like that
Just Jammin'
Again good drumwork ! Good jamming, sounds realy live.
the snow goose
How beautifull, I would have EQ'ed out a bit those highs I think...
Retropolis
This song is realy brought to a higher level by the excelent solo lines.
And you're right it needs a new needle :) (i only listened to the initial upload)
The Set Up.
It lets me tap the foot immediatly and my head starts to shake and then.... the synth jumps in and it becomes interesting. And then a penny whistle? ok back to earth...
freeway jam
Good jamming , another couple of live artists and this would be great fun
es flossen traenen
A beautifull ballad, not realy prog rock I think, but how nice. And good lyrics (yes I speak german)
Good compostion work on this one, nice counter melody in the second part.
Miromurr
Overwelming track for me, right in the face. I'll have to listen to this one a couple of times before I get it all.
TC_Quintessant
To be honnest, my favourite at this moment. I love everything in it !
Fuz Travel
Interesting song, the mix could be much better tough
Come to my dark side
This song ask for full lyrics !! Good ideas here
Lost Souls Dreams
My dear friend Hans, only Dutch people have a sense of humour like that.
Incredible :)
More to come ...

I agree , I'm guilty of laziness. There is a part in the middle that could be better !mmichalski59 wrote:First batch of reviews from me:
Kara: Tribute to Zelda - Really nice melodic material here. While my first impression was that it didn't sound progressive, I could here Kansas playing something like this and they were definitely part of the whole progressive scene. My ears say there is some lacking chord support structure in the middle under the lovely melody and counter. it is added later with strings, maybe arpeggiate some harp or light piano. In any event, the tune has direction and a nice contour and I really enjoyed it!

That's OK, Kara. I have a part in the middle of mine that could be better as well. It sits largely between the beginning and the end.

Gentle Retro Genesis
Streifentier: New School-proggy...plastipathetic monster movie with quaekende Guitar and whhhissspervox. I like it strange...special!
NikP2000: Modernizzzing King Crimson in the red larks' tongues. Harsh, hard and powerful....top!
Barnadine: Syd Barrettz married a Gentle Giant...they got a beautiful proggy child down under called Barney. Before he learnt to wreed and right, he could yodel some tasty music...and here it is, a great tune!
TC: The godfather of wabernde Klaenge floats into the progguitar and trembles flitzefingers into the mists of sound. It really progs!
XNah: This is Krautrock from the dutch mountains...what a fun! Reminds me of several german 70's bands i could listen to in some free festivals like Birth Control or Guru Guru. Yeah!
Stjelle: Very good mix of different elements...i love the drums..dynamically played, good melodic progression. Yessa!
Gucky: The power-can coconutz from behind the loony. New school art-shockwave for the aliens' hitparade: Catchy and son of Electro!
mmichalski59: the river of progness floats down the waterfalls of artrocks: dual burger: the cheese and the macrip-offthecloudswithx-ray. Well executed!

mmichalski59 wrote:Echo Voodoo: Why Are You Calling Me? - Love the way this builds at the outset. Excellent use of the vocoder. Gives it an ELO, Mr. Blue Sky sound even though it is much funkier than that. Mix is excellent, nothing gets lost. Wish this would have built a little more but two minutes is two minutes. Would love to see where this could have gone. Nice work!
Thanks mmichalski59 and kara for the kind words. It is always appreciated.kara wrote:Why are you calling me

Barnadine - Invocation of the Prog Lord -> Seeing the words 'prog opera' in a submission made me shiver with dread, but the execution is marvelous. Great concept, fantastic lyrics, excellent performance, love the vocals. Top notch.

Thank you guys for the reviews.
I tried a secret technique, that Robert Plant explains in "Prog Rock for Dummies", Chapter 4 "Vocals": The producer made him sing higher and higher, at the top of his range, to give the vocals more character.Marc JX8P wrote:...don't really like the vocals though.

Round two of the reviews:
groovesys: In One Sixtieth - Wow, this really reminds me of early Styx. Good to see Legion got over the disco thing in one piece as he provides some tasty guitar chops. Lot of tune packed into one minute. Fantastic technique and the mix is very well balanced. Man, I wish you had more time to keep this going. Super job!
Patrick9: Just Jammin' - I really like modal tunes and this is definitely one. It lives up to its tune, although it might sacrifice some direction because of it. Instrument choices are excellent and the mix is solid. Lots of excellent melodic material. Great jam session!
core: The Snow Goose - Although this is the first month I have participated, I have listened for the last two and core always produces tunes that know where they are going. Well orchestrated entry, although I am not real in love with the drums. They seem a bit too mechanical for the rest of the arrangement. Other than that, this is just another excellent core entry with some of the tastiest arrangement skills around.
duncanparsons: Retropolis - Lots of ELP kind of things going on here, along with some Kansas guitar and synth. Very representative. Sound selection is very appropriate. The move into the violin/piano is a bit abrupt but the flow back to the A section works quite well. Moves well to the end. Excellent offering!
offthewall: The Setup - Guitar at the outset reminds me of Anthony Phillips (I am definitely showing my age, eh?). Love the use of the whistle. Ends a bit abruptly for me but that may be because I can see this tune going on for a while, ala Traffic. Good work!
Jonny Quest: freeway jam - Has that Gary Glitter thing at the beginning, I want yell, "HEY!" Nice melody in the guitar, really something you can latch onto. Would liked to have heard it doubled the second time through, but that is more of a personal preference than a criticism. Maybe cut the tails at the end. Excellent groove with some singable content!

Thanks to Marc JX8P, Echo Voodoo, and mellotronaut for the thoughtful reviews. The really frightening thing is that I think I actually understand mellotronaut!
