Code: Select all

+------+------+
| pad | pad |
| 1 | 2 |
+------+------+
| pad | pad |
| 3 | 4 |

That's why I was wondering about a Kaoss pad for this - I think with the new version you can define cutom areas.

That would be a nice size but can it process 4 fingers at the same time?

I'm not even sure if my brain can do that... ;)

On a related note - when you right-click on an XY nippleydoodahthingymajiggy, there's a few XY preset configs.

I can't find these listed in any of the Z2 script/support files - are they currently hard coded into the plug, or is there are way for the less immortal users to add their own presets here? 'Cos that would be smashing... ;)

you can use the space navigator (http://www.3dconnexion.de/products/3a1d.php) and take bidule. so you can control 3 fields at one time. i get my navigator today so i can report the next days if you are interested in how it works

I see, my theme is actual... well, here You are the solution... LEMUR.
http://www.cycling74.com/products/lemur
This interface is totally programmable, You can command all parameters by your fingers... OK, only one problem is his price 2700 USD...
A friend gave me an old Kawai K1m with one joy-stick MIDI programmable, but this is not the solution.
For URS and his hardware developper: You have to find the time to discuss more about this interface, this will be very interessting deal for him: every manufacturer of the hardware interface never purpose the joy-stick while all virtual synths has the controlled interface for joy-stick (and not only one): Reaktor is one of the most important.
This mus have a good commercial success...
The interface like LEMUR or other sensors are the heavy solution for a majority of musicians..

a case full of x/y's in this thing would be nice: http://www.mawzer.com/ but it looks like dev has stalled. man, i would love a bank of at least 4 xy pads.

A couple of these, and using the HID device in Bidule, would be pretty slick, and not too expensive.

Sure!

A good joystick: 20$ x 4 = 80$ (if ordering more than 1000 units)
hardware for interface (microcontroller, simple box, some resistors, optos & capacitors etc.): 10$

Makes 90$ for the hardware, so a small series of 250 units could probably ship at, hmmm, $300 - $400 (?) to feed one guy doing it?

Ah, I missed the first page of the thread. I thought it was about building a single unit for performing with zebra. My bad, sorry.

Yeah, if one were to make an actual product, it'd be better to custom-design a piece, probably using four OEM touchpads (as seen in laptops) and a custom driver chip to make it show up as a USB MIDI device.

Certainly doable, but alot of work and no doubt most of it decidedly non-fun. :)

Hehehe, building it as an actual Midi device (also usable with your ancient *hardware* dinosaurs!) is at least 2$ cheaper per unit, and it involves much less work than building a usb device!

We'll see...

Good Adress, thank Amoeba! I've wrote to them (this is a french company) and Urs You can to see them at Musikmesse (Hall 5.1 Row D45) and see their machine. It's not clear, if this interface has a joystick, the interessting is that this is totally modulable, can use linear potentiometers, circular knobs and command much of parameters! This is genial concept... Go and see.
They have the prices, You can compose your machine step by step (up the place of your music in the Top50)... super!

I think someone should just make a box 'o' touchpads!

I prefer touchpads vs joysticks due touch pads being so immediate, nonlinear, and you can do so many cool 2 finger tricks with a mono touch pad.

It would be nice if they had a hold function and an led (similar to kaoss pad) to see which position each pad was left at.

Ditto here - joysticks are always "hold" mode, you can do so much more with pads. a light showing the current positions would be nice, but that's likely to be much too expensive to implement. So we don't need it :hihi:

As alternative to HOLD, I'd like other mode to be SETTLE: after release, it takes a user-definable amount of time to reach a user-definable home position via selectable curves (one for x and one for y).

Post

Settle sounds cool...

The Z1 has hold on the X/Y pad and it is great to tap rhythms between two points. I would be all over a 4 pad controller for Zebra! Would it be possible to have X/Y pads with pressure also? So I guess X/Y/Z pads?
