...and no one here is. However, you have to ask yourself how relevant it is to the way we make music with 303's *now* rather than 15 years ago.

Well....it seems that we are not even gonna be given the option.

There are not many people with TB-303s so the rest of are forced to make 303 basslines without the use of a TB-style step sequencer. If we were given a VSTi that had one then the way we make music *now* might be the same. We are not given the option though. Those bands that used mods to sequence thir 303s by MIDI did so out of choice as thats the way they preferred to work. If we are not given the choice then we can't make that decision as it has already been made by the developer.

In the same way that 15 years ago people had that choice why can't we have that now? Maybe you could provide a standard Tau2 which uses a TB-style built in step sequencer, but then also has mods that provide the alternate functionality. This way it would be more like the original and people could make their own choice.

On a personal note. I find that programming realistic 303 basslines is much easier using ReBirth or Vaz 2010 with a built in Step Sequencer. If I try to program real acid on a piano roll it never sounds quite the same (not like acid). This is probably why people say that TauPro is better for leads than it is acid.

The oscillators and filters on that Reaktor ensemble and in ReBirth might not sound spot on but because they both have the authentic step sequencer it makes the basslines they produced sound much more 'acid' to me than any other bassline soft synth.

damn....I've just proved your point

Try to stay on topic now folks :P

acid died
so did punk
so did jazz
acid jazz is slowly dying
but acid punk jazz is the hot tendency next to flow.

whatever  :help:

it always amazed me how some people could program a 4 to the floor beat a couple of bpm slower or faster
and after that give it a complete new genre name :help: :? .

the production method plays a minor part in making dream sketches - working with a step seq or with a keyroll or with a togglestring doesn`t often add or take anything away from the creativity of the musician in question with the exception of slaves to a method. :)

and in this thread only one truth remains.
tau is so cool as it is.

Dave,

i must admit i'm pretty disappointed about the way you "take care" about possible customers questions. I tried to find out why you are leaving out the sequencer IF you actually try to make a best possible 303 clone. I didn't meant to offend anybody nor trying to make you implement the sequencer at all.

I'm definitely everything else than an analogue hardware geek (in fact i've got no hardware anymore) and i find your way of "customer care" more than offending. If you're not able to cope with this kind of things as a company, hire somebody to do that for you.

Ronny Pries quoth i must admit i'm pretty disappointed about the way you "take care" about possible customers questions.

What, by responding to a question based on a ludicrous analogy with a tongue-in-cheek answer? Or by giving you a fairly length and straightforward response about how he sees most customers using the thing?

How disappointing, indeed. Sigh.

I tried to find out why you are leaving out the sequencer IF you actually try to make a best possible 303 clone.

And he told you.

I didn't meant to offend anybody nor trying to make you implement the sequencer at all.

Then what are you complaining about? The fact that dspite giving you a straighforward answer to your question, in other posts Dave proved that he a sense of humour and you obviously dont?

I'm definitely everything else than an analogue hardware geek (in fact i've got no hardware anymore) and i find your way of "customer care" more than offending.

You're some spod who turned up at the last possible moment and started whinging.

Dave responded humorously to your stupid analogy, then gave a straightforward answer, then responded to someone else's humour. And now you're saying he's offended you? What a pillock.

If you're not able to cope with this kind of things as a company, hire somebody to do that for you.

If you're not able to cope with a software company's design decisions, then why dont you hire somebody to do exactly what you want.

Ah man Ronny Pries thats harsh ... no thats low !!! :x  :x  :x

Dave is a regular kvr visitor that always took care of possible customers as well as customers ! and he spend lots of time on advice and he contributed to the audio comunity by giving away freebees and giving tips.
He has manners and is always a possitive force around !

I must take up for dave her / he just told you no i am probably not planning on making tau with step seq -
if you can`t handle no then your simply a spoiled brat !
rant over ! :x

lets talk abut tau 2 - can you tell us about the new tau dave - whats different from tau pro and tau 1 ? :)

I am not a faceless customer service drone, I'm a (well almost) normal human being and I enjoy a joke every now and then. If being called a "syntho-fundamentalist" in jest offends you, I'm very sorry. I trust that this apology will be accepted in the spirit it is offered.

Just what is it about the 303 that brings inspires such debate though??

Oh good - another 303 argument.

Here's an idea, if you want the real 303 sound, buy a 303 (crazy I know). I think Muon Tau is a cracking piece of software, I can't quite put my finger on what it sounds like....(TB-308, TD-803, TD-030, oh something like that).

I buy synths on their merits, if Tau 2 sounds good I will purchase it.

I don't need a step-sequencer (although my real sequencer left me a long time ago).....

i don't know what I'm trying to say here, glad to have achieved my objective....

Post

Will Tau 2 get dusty if you leave it in a corner of your (virtual) room? The real 303 gets dusty.....

Seems like a good plan to me. However, if you want something you can control live via MIDI, automate in your sequencer and route through your VST effects, consider a software emulation. Not to mention the fact that you can instantiate as many copies of the VSTi that you need in a song...oh, and it'll be a fraction of the price. I think progress is wonderful

Couldn't agree more - it seems to attract every particle of dust in the studio straight to it for some inexplicable reason. We're not planning to model this aspect of it though
