There are not many people with TB-303s so the rest of are forced to make 303 basslines without the use of a TB-style step sequencer. If we were given a VSTi that had one then the way we make music *now* might be the same. We are not given the option though. Those bands that used mods to sequence thir 303s by MIDI did so out of choice as thats the way they preferred to work. If we are not given the choice then we can't make that decision as it has already been made by the developer.
In the same way that 15 years ago people had that choice why can't we have that now? Maybe you could provide a standard Tau2 which uses a TB-style built in step sequencer, but then also has mods that provide the alternate functionality. This way it would be more like the original and people could make their own choice.
On a personal note. I find that programming realistic 303 basslines is much easier using ReBirth or Vaz 2010 with a built in Step Sequencer. If I try to program real acid on a piano roll it never sounds quite the same (not like acid). This is probably why people say that TauPro is better for leads than it is acid.
