That's crap Jens. It's for everyone.

If you enjoy the contests and you stay with the contest thread, you're in the "circle" -- nothing 'elitist' about it.

If you stay in the eXT circle or the HPC circle, does that also mean you are elitist?

yes, but the problem is for me that I do not enjoy every month anymore - most of it is pants according to my taste. Most themes just don't attaract me. Sorry, but that's true. And this thread here has already thirty pages. Maybe not too much if you follow through every day but that's the problem - I won't.

no HPC or OT for me - but regarding eXT:

I think perhaps yes. But once you're in you're in - it's not that you have to follow every thread.

But I think I should perhaps rather have used the term 'establishment' instead of 'elitist'.

wtf???

just for the record: It's still afternoon here and I never drink in the afternoon.

If you don't get my point that shows a lot.

Should we start a thread (perhaps with a poll) how many people here at kvr feel similarly?

Yeah -- 'elitist' kinda means 'exclusive' -- but I understand what you mean.

However, there's only one post you need to read to be in the contest, and that's the first one on the submissions page. ;)

* The rest is just yapping, needling, cajoling, lovey-kissy-huggy stuff and all that...

It takes a minute to read the submission thread at the beginning of the month to decide if you want to participate. You don't have to read every thread, just that one thread each month. You don't have to read the gossip thread at all unless you want to.

So you missed the part that said "April", and that's someone else's fault?

Yeah -- Scoops had to post the April on early so he could gather up all the midi files to give out to everyone in advance. April is a kind of new sort of contest thing.

You made a mistake, by reading the wrong post, and now we get all this crap? For years now there has been a submission thread with the name of the month in it... And now you're making all kinds of excuses for not reading it? I don't read all the posts and threads about the contest either... but it's not hard to find that one post...

EDIT: I'm too slow :(, EV already made my point...

I only noticed one of those two threads amongst the eleven
stickies here in the music cafe and that was the one for the April contest: I thoroughly read through it but I didn't realize that it's for april - Why? It was the beginning of the month and I was looking for the contest thread and I thought I had found it so my mind blocked out the month because it appeared to be superflous information. That's called selective perception and everyone's brain does this all the time.

Fact #1: I'm not mentally handicapped in any way.

Fact#2: I don't have any reading disablities.

Fact#3: Until a few days ago I didn't realize that this month's theme is prog.

But why do I bother to post this if all I get from it is being insulted by the establishment?

edit: bloody typos

Last minute reviews for last-minute entries (sorry they're so brief):

Markleford - Plowshares to Swords to Plowshares: A Progressive Rock Odyssey (Abridged) -> A toure de force performance with a great concept and story.

mellotronaut - Prognuts -> Wild and woolly, very mello.

farlukar - Human Behaviour
-> I like the feel and tone of this one; nice stuff.

papatomany - Aftermath (View From the Sky) -> Very spacey and otherworldly.

magog - The Allegory of the Cave - a Micro-Epic -> A lovely sound throughout, I like the vocals.

I only submit a song if i seriously think i can compete. (except for "gnome" of course, if anyone remembers THAT thing  ), and so far, i havent liked any of the topics yet. But one will come by one month, and i will try it out :D
And then, i wont be so ronery

Jens,

Sorry to hear that this bothers you so.

As I have stated in the past, I believe this contest is many differnt things to many differnt people. Some people enter for the fun. Some enter for the challenge. Some enter to learn. I think if I were to ask everybody here what the identity of this contest is, I would get a different answer for each person. Each month, we see how each individual treated the theme, and discussion ensue. At the end, we go back to the beginning, and start the cycle over again. It's been going on like this for years.

One of the most important aspects of this contest, is the discussion threads that evolve. It gives both the listener and the composer time to listen to all the music, and provide feedback and communicate toughts. Some people choose not to become involved in discussion, some do. Again, it's a personal freedom offered to all that want to participate.

So, if I understand you correctly, you dont want to take the time to communicate with other musicians, and as a result, you tag them as elitist?

I have a really fast computer, some good mics, vintage musical instruments, and lots of fancy software. Just need some talent
