so one of my bands is heading into the studio starting on sunday to record our second album. it will be the first time i've used the receptor in a real studio. i've used it live for the past 9 months now and love it, but i'm real curious to see how it really 'sounds' in a studio.
definitely going to use it for the piano sound. either white grand or vertikal. i also have a nord electro 2 that i use primarily for the organ and rhodes sound live, but tempted to try out b4 ii and elektrik piano by native instruments on a few songs.
if you want to check out the band, it's www.bettysoo.com
anyways, just excited to use the receptor on an actual recording!

Hey Todd,
That's great to hear. I hope you have a good time in the studio. I have one suggestion though. If you get the chance, you should use an actual piano and Rhodes and B3 on the album. Most respectable studios will have these instruments in house, and even though the average listener won't be able to tell the difference between the real thing and a good plug, you'll be able to tell and it will probably spark a little extra inspiration too! Plugs are great -especially for live situation. But in the studio - if you have access to the real thing use it. You'll thank me later.
Good luck tracking…

well after a rocky start in the studio, i finished up my tracks last night. the first day in the studio the receptor wouldn't even turn on. i have a thread here where i talk more about what happened there, but basically the battery in the receptor had to be replaced.
so the studio engineer and producer are both 'old school' sorta guys that are very against vst's and stuff like that. so i was wondering how they would like what i was doing with the receptor.
i recorded lots of organ and rhodes stuff with my nord electro. then it came time for piano dubs. the studio had a real, stand-up piano that was pretty old and clanky and had lots of character. so the producer wanted to mic that up and record some stuff. so the engineer was spending forever trying to get a good sound out of it. so after a while i said "well, i do have a stand-up piano sound that might be what you're looking for if you want to hear that?" so finally the engineer said yeah let's hear that.
so i proceeded to load up my Vertikal Jazz samples from Sampletekk. After about 3 minutes the samples were loaded and i started playing. the engineer was pissed off that it sounded so good. they both loved it! so they wanted to record that sound on more songs they liked it so much!
anyways, just wanted to say the studio was fun, and the receptor performed as expected (after replacing the battery!). love the receptor! and huge kudos to the makers of 'white grand' and 'vertikal' they sound amazing.
want to hear rough mixes so far? there's 'rough cuts' up on her myspace page. check out 'secrets' to hear the piano.

I really like the direction you guys are going with these tunes. Very Nora Jones-ish. I like her voice a lot!
Man I wish I could find someone in my area with that kind of potential. I'm sitting here with all this studio gear and nobody with that kind of talent that to produce. She's a keeper. Work on the arrangements and sweetening. Please post your further progress.
Regards,
Danny
