I uploaded a short sax solo. Somehow it was harder to find phrases that sounded really good together, but you can feel free to edit the audio file anyhow

(Actually, I have to agree with the opinion that some parts seem to be slightly "off").

I guess he mis-aligned the bass line somehow because when i was making the drums for this i had the bassline at my disposal and it was spot on.

Okay, I'll bite. I uploaded a synth solo, all bendy and stuff. (I sent it dry and with delay.)

BTW, I had to snip a tiny bit of silence off of the beginning of the WAV clip that you posted, so that things would sync up in Cubase.

Sorry about the misalignment. I'm not quite sure what you guys mean. Is the bass misaligned or the guitar or both? And just the bass line that comes together with the guitar or the other bassline too?

Both the bass and the guitar. I recorded it and sent you a files that were alligned with the start of your file. Now it is delayed by an 8th or somewhere around that.

Yes, that is the problem. There is a bit of silence at the beginning. However, I didn't edit anything because I thought that if everybody cuts the audiofile differently, there might be a problem in the end.

That's it, you can't go chopping bits off the file and still hope it to line up the way it was played.

You are right then. I made the mistake of trying to play a solo over the first chorus and I needed a click to help me start in time with the track. I am resending the solo with the exact length of silence that was on the original restored.
(Seems to be a bit complicated to submit my humble little bit.)

As for the silence: I'm not sure what you guys mean. The only silence I found is in the recording without drums, and it's 0.0022 seconds. Is that it? But your recording, Piktor, contains 6.3 seconds silence before. So I have to realign it in my DAW anyway.

I hope I'm not missing something obvious here (sometimes communication can be so hard in a forum ...

), check if I've aligned it correctly now (it sounds best to me that way):

Also, who sent the orchords? I need some help aligning that recording. It's much shorter than one loop and I don't quite know where to position it. The harmonies are also quite challenging!

You're welcome and thanks jakob. I don't know why there are 6.3 seconds of silence in the recording that I sent. The silence that I restored is the very short one that I found at the beginning of the Hellbilly version of the tune.

Anyway, your musical instincts are good and you did align the solo correctly. However, the clip that you posted is about 16 seconds long. My solo went for one complete chord progression (about 44 seconds). Did the whole thing get to you, or did you only receive the short bit that you posted?

I just uploaded to mix files so you can hear where the files were played. In case you agree that they sound better aligned as they were played. Files are named kvrsweetieBass1.mp3 and kvrsweetieBass2.mp3 because I sent you 2 separate bass lines. Hopefully that helps clear it up a bit. Let me know what you reckon Jakob.

I am sorry to say, that there is almost 0.5 seconds silence in the mp3. Check the screenshot (of course I changed bars to seconds after the import).

I want to understand what you guys mean, but I think I got it now. You are referring to the very first file I uploaded, not the later versions. And even the MP3. The WAV doesn't have the silence. I had actually just intended that file for quick listenening... Oh well, damage is done, I'll pay better attention next time.

@Piktor: don't worry, I only did a short recording, I do have the complete recording

@morelia: thanks, this matches what I have now. However, I must say that I liked the way it was before (the guitar esp.). But it's the only way I listened to it for some time, so that's what I was used to. We'll see.

All right, gotta keep the crowds entertained, so here is a preliminary mix:

Let me know what you think. Two doubtful spots for me are the flute solo (obviously I don't know much about playing the flute): is it too cheesy? (Elevator music)
And then the transition to that almost atonal String section (orchords, whoever submitted that): does it work?

I really need a solo for that part after the orchords! Watto, what are those mics saying?

jakob, I hate to say this but... my part is in the wrong place

It starts too early, check my mp3 for reference. However you can keep it as it is if you want (sounds a little strange to me though).
The flute is ok. I'd consider adding some reverb/delay or moving it to another place inside the song, so it reads more like a solo.
The strings transition sounds nice actually.
