100 quid is much much cheaper than buying a set of tablas, and unfortunately I don't have the benefit of any recording equipment, let alone good ones. And even if I did, recording them well is too much of a discipline in it's own right, and one that I don't even want to bother investing the time in since it's already being done well elsewhere, not to mention having access to whole and varying drum kits, congas, tablas, dholaks, maracas, ouds, darbukas, bongos, tars, batas, djembes, mirwas.... and knowing how to play some of these instruments as well.Kingston wrote:a big bag of percussion is gonna set you back, what, 100 quid? and that's including a bloody glockenspiel already!
I bit the bullet and simply started recording my own, even for looping purposes and usually just blown live and I can only wonder why I didn't do it 5 years a go.
I'm looking for collections like the ns-congas: one instrument that's thoroughly catalogued, and only 12 quid. So yeah, if 100 quid will get me 8-10 sets of good samples like that, then money is no object, and almost assuredly better than any recordings I could make at this point. If I could get similar collections for other single drum or percussion instruments that I wanted, then I'd gladly pay for it once and not need to again. As it is 12 quid for congas looks like a great and lasting deal. So where's the next one?
