A pitch shifter/harmonizer with decent sound quality (monophonic is enough), which outputs only the most prominent frequency range (and not all the s**t it gets).
This is probably NOT easy to do...

Looks like it could be based on a resynthesis engine like melodyne, but simplified in some waysLaguna Rising wrote:A pitch shifter/harmonizer with decent sound quality (monophonic is enough), which outputs only the most prominent frequency range (and not all the s**t it gets).

yeah probably so... I suppose the engine of melodyne works that way...Krakatau wrote:Looks like it could be based on a resynthesis engine like melodyne, but simplified in some waysLaguna Rising wrote:A pitch shifter/harmonizer with decent sound quality (monophonic is enough), which outputs only the most prominent frequency range (and not all the s**t it gets).

Do you think it's too hard to think of a similar development in few months ?

An aligner vst effect with a high quality timestretching algo that aligns multiple audio clips, the way vocalign does. Used for aligning backing vocals, speech (overdubbing foreign language tracks for video, etc.]
There's nothing quite like it in the vst world, and I definitely have a need for this. As does every sound engineer that has to deal with voice overs for broadcasting.

OK, I've got a rather unusual idea (don't know if it's even possible - and if the results would justify the effort):
I would like to see another c64 SID vst with a built-in programming language used for making patches (just like in c64 days). It would go *much* further than quadrasid goes. I dream of a VST that would be even able to import that classic hubbard/galway etc. sound routines... pure 6502 assembler
maybe some code chunks of sidplay2 and the vice64 emulator (both open source) would help.
However, don't know if the effort would be worth it...

Here is something I'd like to see. Might do it myself as well: An atonal sine cluster with every sinewave ringmodulated in a chain from start to stop.

A gate like scuzphut that allows you to take any output or mixer track and put a rhythmic gate on it. I know these are already out there, but typically they either lack quality (the output is significantly lower or affected in some way) or lack a necessary feature (ie if the gate splits the sound into 16th notes, I want to be able to merge a couple of those together to make 8th or 1/4 notes). To me, a fully functional rhythmic gate plugin would be wonderful enough, but if you wanted to push it. . . . A significant innovation would allow the user to morph the gated pattern's character based on a few knobs: frequency, complexity, etc or perhaps change the gate's behavior (from loop to bounce to backwards, etc.). Something like this would have wonderful live potential.

Clean, well thought out GUIs.
I know some people like putting pictures as backgrounds, or making them.. interesting. But, I find them to be a distraction (especially stuff like JackDark's nude anime stuff.
) Yes, these are free tools for us, and believe me, most of us are VERY thankful for them...
but sometimes you freeware devs get noticed and picked up by the majors, and that can only be a good thing! You get paid to produce stuff, and the majors get innovative employees.

havnt read the whole thread, but as an addition to that idea - why not have just 1 sample per box. i dont know how many people would have 100+ samples located in a folder, i know i dont, but then i dont use many samples. So how about you select a parent folder - the app/plug will search through that folder and find a random number of wavs/samples, then if the sampels are too long they could be 'cut up' so that when it randomises it could have any 'part' of a realy long wav file?vurt wrote:tuz wrote:yes.vurt wrote:will there be a place to field ideas for the daring devs?
hehe, right im not even sure this is possible but hear me out and see what you fancy doin with the idea...
as many of you know i like the idea of random chance type music, not completely random but an element thereof.
ive had an idea for a sampler, the gui of which would feature a 3x3 square of pads(this could be more but i think once i get further you will realise why i am thinking keep it small) and the usual adsr, filter type stuff....
altho only 9 pads are available it would store a hundred or so samples from one shots to loops.
then each time a pad from 1-9 is hit not only will it play the chosen sample, it will also randomise from the pool the other 8 so then a different choice could be made and so on.
not sure if its doable or if anyone fancys trying but if you need more info pm me and ill try and clear up what im after

Sweet. I have a couple ideas.stefancrs wrote:They're still welcome
As far as instruments or MIDI generators go, it'd be nice to see some stuff geared towards aleatoric and/or generative music. Really, anything that could introduce some randomness would be appreciated. A step sequencer with some complex variation capabilities (like the Notron) would be good.
On the effect side, I'd love a really nice sounding, straight-forward filter. Something like a Mutronic's Mutator. It doesn't need to have 30 different filter types, or 10 LFOs, or a bunch of delays. It doesn't need any other effects for that matter. It just needs to sound good, and not eat up massive amounts of CPU. Really, I'd like to see all sorts of "one trick pony" effects. Take a look at the Mooger foogers and you can pretty much get what I mean.
Now, I'm making this next suggestion knowing it's probably ridiculously difficult, but I still think it sounds cool. The idea is basically a reverb that would let you specify the attributes of an echo chamber. For an idea of what I'm talking about, take a look as Bob Clearmountain's setup- http://www.mixthis.com/livechambers.html
My idea is that the gui enable the user to specify the size and shape of the room, and possibly the materials and microphone type.
I have to say the willingness of the developers to take suggestions is very cool. It'd be nice if there was a system in place for people to submit proposals to developers all the time.
