One question, if I select an OSC preset, it loads not only the OSC settings, but it's also adding LFO's and such to my rack depending on the OSC preset. This normal? Seems to make it more of a patch template then, and not just OSC presets?

I'm not in front of my Zebra right now, but if I understand you correctly...

OSC settings will load up LFOs if they're used in the OSCs.

If you somehow get LFOs when loading only WAVEFORM templates then I'm clueless.

I think there's a bit in the manual about this. You need to load another OSC in another column then copy / paste the OSC settings you want from there into your original OSC. Is this what you mean? It's in the manual after all the patch descriptions.

Just got...spent about 4 minutes with some sounds and some XYs and was transported into aural bliss. My only major problem is that I'm going away for a week so I won't have an opportunity to take this baby out on the open road at cruising speed. Damn!!! This is WONDERFUL!! Great job!

Hehe, actually, there are a lot of miscellaneous references (music, TV, filmic and so on, even the odd ex-girlfriend

) I put into patch names, and good reasons for many of them.

That one is a Propaganda reference (I'm a big fan), second-generation Propaganda when they had Betsi Miller as vocalist, and it's quite similar to a synth part in a song on the "1,2,3,4" album. And the "flitting" part is, er, poetic licence...

Without *some* naming creativity you end up with a bunch of generic names like "Dark Pad 6" and "Echoey Bass 3" - descriptive, but where's the personality in that...?

Yes, this is intended.

The oscillator presets named like, for example:
"Osc Autopan Dual (LFO3).h2p"

...is indicating that this preset is setup for autopanning (in dual mode), with LFO3 as the panning modulator, so you know what to expect. If you aren't using LFO3, then Zebra will automatically add it to the grid because it is now modulating a destination (the panning of the oscillator). You can easily change it to a different LFO if you like.

There wasn't much point in saving out 6 versions of each LFO patches preassigned to different LFO's, it's not that useful imo and would really just be a cheap ploy to increase the numbers. Of course, you can tailor all the presets to your own ends - if you often use LFO 4 for panning, then simply save out the oscillator preset set to LFO 4 instead.

All the templates are a great source of starting points, but I'm also trying to help point out the usefullness of modifying them for your own ends, and inspiring you to copy and setup up your own useful source material - it's a really great feature of Zebra, imo. (I hope Urs adds the template facility to the regular envelopes as well - this was a nice feature of my trusty Wavestation and made quick programming a breeze!

I've just spent over an hour having a blast going through the main patches. There seems to be an advanced-level course in synthesis going on here! I could spend months studying these, except that I'd get so distracted with how damn cool they are to play and never get anywhere....

These patches show off what Zebra can do in a way that's far beyond (IMHO) anything that I've seen so far. (No offense meant to anyone else -- I've enjoyed Howard's and Zircon's patches for Zebra a lot too.) This is just fantastic stuff.

Beyond the patches, the idea of providing patch templates is just brilliant. I haven't really taken advantage of them, but the potential is obvious, and I can't wait to dig in.

I have to agree, beej, that you've seriously "over-delivered" here. I suppose it's hard to sell what at first glance sounds like a mere bank of patches for much more than $30, but to call Transmission a "bank o' patches" is a bit like calling a Ferrari an "pleasant mode of transportation"....

Your mission, whether you choose to accept it or not: write (perhaps in collaboration with Howard) the definitive tutorial for Zebra 2.1....

I am seriously blown away. I can't believe I was actually reluctant to part with $30 for this...

This is a must have -- Urs might as well up the price for Zebra by $30 and include it with every purchase.

The ONLY gripes I can come up with are the typos in the manual, but jeez... Send it to me and I'll fix 'em for you!
