pschelfh wrote:Quick Q to everyone : When do you consider a bunch of sounds a soundbank for Zebra2 ? 50, 64, 100, 128 ?
Don't ask me, you might not like my answer... :D

Seriously, you have to decide what you feel is a collection. I think virtually everyone would tell you they'd prefer 32 great patches to 128 mediocre ones...

I had a feeling you were gonna say 400 - 600 !

Peter.

PS : Your templates were very helpful to show the inner workings of Zebra2. I had a slow start understanding all the synth options but now I'm up to speed again.

not me, I want 1200 crappy ones! he he

The XY options on 1 patch can bring out tons of new sounds if clever made.

So i'd rather have 32 smart patches :)

Its not always you remember why you made certain choices within a patch but if you put XY in control of the important things then it saves you some time trying to figure out what the h... made that patch tick.

I hope this means we can look forward to a set of 32+ MK patches for Z2 :!: You're one of my fave sound designers, Mike.

Now aint that funny cause your one of mine Howard :)

I admire the way you put expression into a patch and push the filters to the limit. Rock solid :)

Regarding patches i have a few things which is doing my head in, the LFO and the mod matrix. I'm ok with with modulating parameters with an offset dead center but things like OSC Volume which have offset at 0 gives me a headache and i cant figure out how to control OSC Volume with XY. Maybe i'm blind or something but i could use a hand here ;)

EDIT: lol got the Volume thing now heh heh and i'm NOT saying a word ;) I really should sleep some more....

Yep, Howard is my hero also !

Just downloaded the Virus Ti manual because I'm planning to get one this summer. There are only some of my sounds included while Howard has a whole bank ! Still a long way to go.

Peter.

Correction : 2 banks of Howard in Virus Ti !

I'm a bit ashamed of the TI manual. Had to write most of it "deaf" i.e. before half of the features were working. A great synth, but writing under those circumstances caused me so much frustration (bordering on hatred!) that it's no wonder I've hardly switched it on since then... luckily, I found Zebra2

Working on it but the LFO thing keeps me from doing evolved patches so i'm doing some classic oldskool patches:

WET = Artsacoutstic Reverb + TL's Pocket Limiter

DRY = Zebra2 alone

Heh heh well its what i call self automated patches. Typical stuff you would sit and do in the mix but i hate
that step so i just make the patches with a small variation to add some life into it.

The strings you hear is 2 instances of the same patch where 1 do the phasing and the other do the clean string.

Its a 2 osc string patch with build in phaser option in XY, nothing special but it just compliment the track pretty good :)

Yup its incredible how much ground Zebra covers :) Dunno what Urs had in mind when he started out his Zebra 2 project but i think its fair to say that his machinery keeps on surprising people.
