Zebra2 latency problem

I believe there is a small latency problem with Zebra2 on Intel Mac (and probably other platforms) using the AU version making it a bit less than sample accurate. Apparently Zebra2 is declaring itself with a latency of 16 samples.

Now I don't know if Garageband handles latency compensation but if I play a note from the beginning using Garageband, Zebra 2 does not play at all.

In Metro I place a note at the beginning of the first measure. Due to latency compensation, I have verified that the host is telling Zebra to start the note at sample 240 of the first 256 byte audio buffer yet Zebra is starting the note up to 45 samples early. Since there is a sample latency of 16 samples the note should come out exactly aligned with the second buffer of audio.

This is a minor problem except that if you start playing with no lead in then the first note is subject to DC offset problems which could include glitching or other malformed audio.

I don't have logic but if someone can try this in logic I would appreciate knowing if the same or similar problem occurs.

If Urs, you need more info on this I would be glad to provide it.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Logic has the meanwhile legendary "forgotten first note due to plugin latency" bug, just like Garageband. I'm pretty tired to wait for their fix, so I usually propose a workaround: Just delay all tracks by a couple of ticks.

Jeremy, I'll happily mail offline for technical chit chat about latencies. The reason behind it is optimization, naturally. Zebra should at no point be 45 samples off though.

Later,

;) Urs
