Hi,

I set up midi remote as described in the tutorial. dynamics controlling eq.

I can controll the eq via my midi controller (midi track with eq as output) but it doesn't receive any midi data from the dynamics plugin. I tried to use omni input or just the output from the dynamics plugin, but there is no data coming from the dynamics plugin.

I tried to record, but there is really nothing coming.

Of course I have setup the midi out from the dynamics, as in the tutorial I use "total gain" send it on channel 1 cc65 and have set the receive settings (which properly receives the same controller coming from my midicontroller) from the eq according to it.
Furthermore I have setup the comp, so that there IS gainreduction etc.

Is there any known problem with cubase 4?

Have I missed something? I'm using the demo and it bypass randomly. I'm really interested in the plugins and would love to buy them, but first it has to work.

Thanks

Hi,

thanks for your feedback. There is no known issue with Cubase 4 but I cannot tell for sure our customers use the MIDI out functionality in this host, and we cannot test it here because Steinberg refuses to send us a license for testing purposes. We are going to investigate further though and will keep you informed.

Anybody here using Cubase 4 as well?

I finally got the final word: there have been a bug in C4 since its release which causes MIDI CC messages from plugin not to be sent (only MIDI notes are transmitted).

Steinberg had plans to correct this bug in 4.02 but it seems it's still here in 4.03.

We will give you more information as soon as we have plans from Steinberg. But it seems you are stuck with Cubase 3 or other applications if you want to use the advanced MIDI Out capabilities of our plugins.

You have two workarounds though:
- use the automation generation capability of the plugin instead of MIDI CC (but it won't be real time anymore, see the end of this tutorial. It's for Sonar but it's almost the same in Cubase)
- use a VST chaining plugin supporting MIDI CC routing, if your goal is to use this functionality on the same track. EnergyXT for example could do the trick.

Hope this helps.

Here is the latest reply we got from Steinberg:
you are right. Sending CC from VST 2 plug-ins to Cubase 4.0.x is broken.
We were not aware of this bug.

I will take care that this will get fixed with Cubase 4.1.
From what I know the current target date is Q3 2007.
