can somebody inform on how to make warm pad sounds the same as this one in the following file,
http://www.box.net/shared/10kq9diuhf
using something like synth1 or any other free vst.
synth1 vst has some pad sounds, but what would i require to do to improve them or make them more similar to the example in the above file.
and also , how would I make something from scratch.
thanks

My headphones disintegrated so I can't really hear this but I think I remember it being similar:

The warm pad sound was always one of my favorites.
I think DavenH is right on the spot, at least that's the way I know to make it.
Here's another one with Xhip, using 5 detuned ramps and lowpass 24dB/o: gsoto_warmpad.mp3

hello
i am still a beginner to making sounds,
i am trying to learn how to make these warm pads
can you give me the patch which you made for xhip so i can see what has been done and then i can understand better.
I understand some bits on parameters of tuning the synth sounds, but not everything.
and if you can sort of give me some general step by step instructions on creating this type of sound, that would be great,
so that i could use any free vst to make such sounds,
eg , how many oscillators, amount of detune, attack, filter etc
if possible maybe a step by step for a free vst like superwave p8 or something else which you would recommend as good vsts.
Here are some pad sounds i would like to emulate,
would these be difficult to replicate?

patch: warmpad.adxi
(I used saws=5 in the control page)
Here are some tips, but the best thing would be you to experiment, it's easy:
oscillator:
supersaw, hypersaw, or however you call it, basically a bunch of stacked detuned saws/ramps
play with both the number of saws and the detuning for different effects
amplitude envelope:
moderate or slow attack (around 200ms in my patch)
high or full sustain
release, same as attack applies
filter:
low pass, maybe band pass?
cutoff to taste (low=dark,warm; high=bright,stringy)
zero or low resonance
Just with that you can achieve similar sounds to most of the examples you posted. The third "voicey" one is more complex though.

another little trick that kinda adds extra flavor is to take an LFO and route it to one or two oscillators out of many for a very subtle vibrato effect, moderate to slow speed depending on your tastes. It adds a more lifelike feel and sound while you play it, in my opinion, just as a string section in a symphony wouldn't be precisely in everyone else's vibrato at the same time.
