I find myself rarely using a clinically clean, unfiltered saw for much.

Well, I'm thinking of doing it like in ZebraCM, where a lot of stuff is already set up, while it's still some sort of empty canvas.
In any case, I'll add a filter, ModWheel, ATouch, Velocity, Vibrato...
And... maybe... if a "default.h2p" is present... load that...
(I will never add a dramatic cinematic hyper great eye-opening candy startup sound though. This is reserved for those-we-don't-write-about...)

Exactly what I was thinking and hoping for. I typically start with an "empty canvas" style preset with a set of oscillators I like, some basic XMF settings that work, and some default modulations for character / detune / osc-instability, and then work from there.Urs wrote:And... maybe... if a "default.h2p" is present... load that...
I'm sure I'm not alone in that kind of workflow.
Indeed. So I won't write anything about that either then, since we don't do that in this neck of the woods.(I will never add a dramatic cinematic hyper great eye-opening candy startup sound though. This is reserved for those-we-don't-write-about...)

Yep - don't forget that one of the features of the Transmission soundset is to provide a bunch of these default configurations to provide easy and quick starting points without having to rig everything up first.
I find it's easier by choosing my starting point, so if I want to do a FM pad I'll be using a different grid setup from when I'm doing an analog bass - I choose my appropriate patch template as my starting point and off I go.
Without pimping too much, if you don't own Transmission, then it's a good workflow technique to create your own starting point patches with your own settings and configurations and keep them in a folder together, choose an appropriate one to get started with and then focus on the good stuff from there on in.
It's a really valuable way to work (but then also starting to complete scratch is good at times as well).
