Hey fellow musicians,

the last two collabs I initiated (KVR Funk and KVR Sweetie) were a smashing success (i. e. lots of fun :)), so I thought: why not continue it?

This time around, I provide a basic blues loop for you to play around with. I did something different this time by actually playing a real piano (1920s upright Bechstein). The recording quality is bad, but I think it gives the tune a special character of its own. :D

KVR Blues Theme

If you don't like the drums: KVR Blues Theme No Drums

Tempo: 95 bpm
Key: A blues scale

Chords:

Code: Select all

A7#9 D7#9
A7#9 D7#9
E7 D7
A7#9 E7(#9)
Now, I'm looking for any kind of contribution to this, but I can especially hear a nice funky guitar riff with some wah wah effect (or similar) on it. So if someone would be willing to play that, it would be way cool.

Also, this time around I am using energyXT2, which actually has audio stretching, so if you think the tempo needs adjustment, I have a tool to do that. :D

As always, you can upload your recordings here:

http://jakob.magiera.net/upload.html

Please just upload your instrument only, nothing else (except to demonstrate timing, i. e. when it should come in).

Cheers

Jakob

I book for an Hammond solo ok?

( but I'd like a less acid jazz drums, more blues!)

Hi Jakob - I'm recording something now but I'm just a bit worried about the timing of the backing track. Do we need to cut or time stretch the backing track so it's exactly 95 bpm or do we just play along as it is... I'm assuming the latter.

PS I could really let rip on my solo if there was a chorus/variation on the main theme. Something traditional like a D7, D7, A, A7, D7, D7, E, E7 - ?

roger that!

@sonarman: hm, it's 95 bpm in my host, but it's ok if you're not 100% on 95bpm, I can stretch it to fit :D

And sure, do your variation on the theme!

I think it's an artifact of mp3 conversions. I had to cut a tiny bit of silence at the end to make it loop properly @95bpm. Ogg files are better for collabs.
If I go insane, please don't put your wires in my brain

mm... looks like today I'm not in a blues feel or your piano is not blues enough, <grin>

here is a simple experiment, added percussion and Hammond, but it's not a solo and it's not blues (!)
it could be a secnod part or an alternative theme,
if you like something...

it strongly misses the bass,

I really like those drums! That and the kind of sentimental organ will do great for a bridge/alternative part. Upload them as separate tracks, please!

I can't decide if it's blues or more a funk/r&b thing. Sounds cool anyway ;), I'll try to come up with something.
I like the piano sound.

Hey Jakob - I've sent you a blues harp solo. Sorry about the terrible recording quality.
Feel free to apply as many fx as you like.

Yo, sonarman, superduper blues harp solo - it rocks! :D
Who uploaded the cool bassline? Please upload it without mixing it with my recording, please! :)

Thanks mate.

Is it just one solo per person?

Limits? Heck, no! Do you play other instruments, too? Gimme more! :D

Some VERY sloppy geetar for y'all... sorry my timings all over the place today!

[Edit]Maybe it'll sound ok with a truck load of distortion :) [/Edit]

Thanks mckenic, don't worry, I'll find a place for you - so far I've never had to exclude anyone from my collabs :D

For all others, get a small taste of the blues harp:

I'm discovering some new sounds through this, trying to give it more of a "roomy" feel, like a jam session in basement or so? Now if I could get the right background noise, I could give it some kind of piano bar feel (glasses, murmuring, some shouting, ..., hehe, this could become really cool...).
